More (or less) XM Heating

Unread post by MooreStep »

I used to own a Phase 1 XM 2.0 SEi with aircon. When the weather was very cold, as soon as the coolant warmed a bit the heater fan would switch on automatically in an attempt to raise the temperature of the interior as quickly as possible ... which was welcome.
Now I own a Phase 2 XM 2.1 TD VSX which lacks aircon but which is still supposed to provide automatic climate control in accordance with the temperature selected by the driver, provided this is above ambient. However, I no longer notice the blower coming on automatically, even with the engine warm and the ambient temperature well below zero. As a result, I have to switch on the blower manually.
I wonder if this is a fault, or do all XMs not equipped with aircon lack the auto-fan feature? Maybe someone else with a Phase 2 XM could tell me if their car's heater fan comes on by itself a few minutes after starting the car on a cold morning?

Yep
I do have airco though. I've always got the blower speed knob on 'auto' and the temp on something like 22 degs. In the freezing mornings my car waits for the coolant temp to hit 60degs before warming me up. I love that feature, always makes me smile because it feels as though the car is taking care of you. (or am I slowly going nuts??)
