Thanks for the clues Davie, I would have been struggling for a long time to get that one! I'll have to give myself 8 points for being close with the Standard 8. Even if you know its a Standard 10 and search the net for pictures of the interior very few come up!

Davie...can you remember the light blue Standard 10 at the Ford Dealers in Thurso?

daviemck2006 wrote: ↑09 Sep 2017, 21:50 It could be worth 10 points for you Neil. Theres a bit of a sad story about this car, a crying shame when you hear it sand see the full photos. t is sitting in the back yard of the ford dealers in Thurso. Just as Chris and I spotted it an elderly gentleman was heading for it. Turns out he was a previous owner of it. He sold it to a mate a few years ago, and the car has lain unused inside for 3 years, its absolutely perfect inside, there is some surface corrosion on both wings and the bootlid has some tinworm on the bottom corners. According to the ex owner she runs perfectly, and is solid as a rock underneath. The car was traded in a few days ago under a Ford approved scrappage scheme, the allowance for it was £2000 only if it gets crushed. I was very tempted to go into the dealer and see if I could rescue it, but the old man seemed to think that had been tried and the poor old thing has its fate sealed. It is a mid 50's car quite a standard looking 4 door saloon.

Well done, Ford.
Another wonderful item consigned to scrap . . . a bit like the latest Ka+, which has just had the heated rear window deleted, not even available as an optional extra.
What!?!
Your days are numbered, you know.

I can't remember the last time I switched my HRW on. I think modern ventilation systems are so good they're not needed any more. I couldn't even tell you where the switch is for it on the Scenic!

Well done Practical Classics!Ford agrees not to destroy a classic Standard Ten under its scrappage scheme
"..Tim Holmes, Ford UK’s executive director, Communications & Public Affairs, now says that "we have been in discussion with Danny Hopkins, the editor of Practical Classics magazine, and we have found a solution that satisfies both the terms of our scrappage scheme and all the parties concerned".

I knew at the time it was going for scrappage and thought that was a crying shame. The paintwork was very faded but there didnt seem to be any rust or dents to worry about. Chris and I spoke to an elderly gentleman, who had known the car when we were there. Glad its going to be saved.

That's brilliant news! Ford have finally made the right decision, which any student of marketing would have spotted a mile off. Well done, Practical Classics!
Getting old and polluting cars 'off the road' is laudable, but there might be no certainty (in this case) that the 1959 '10' was actually less polluting than the Transit Van (!!) which replaced it. Maybe.
Davie and I were lucky to stumble across the Standard in the Perth dealer's yard, and even luckier to find the previous long-time owner also looking on. Extraordinary stuff.
Davie, I am raising a glass of Talisker tonight in celebration of the little blue '10' being rescued . . .

Makes you wonder if Ford would've been so difficult had it been, say, a 100E Prefect.
Just goes to show, you can't be too careful who you sell anything old/interesting to.

Always good to read a bit of carping in the commentsUK eyes multiple spaceports with £30m funding for Sutherland launch site
UK Business Minister Greg Clark said the new site on the A'Mhoine Peninsula at Sutherland on the northerly-most tip of mainland Scotland would provide facilities for vertically launched space rockets and satellites to take off into orbit.
Under the plans announced on Monday, US group Lockheed and its partners will receive £23.5m in grants from the UK Space Agency that will go towards establishing launch operations at Sutherland and developing a new system for deploying small satellites in Reading, southern England.

Davie and I drove right across that peninsula on our NC500 last September, after stopping off at Durness and Balnakiel old wireless station, now craft village. Remote and spectacular.

I'm not sure there's a need for small satellites down here in Reading.

Reading is a densely populated place. The satellites will need to be small.
