brake lights

i have a problem with my xsara td the rear brake lights work sometimes & sometimes not i changed the bulbs but it still happens checked bulb holders seem fine, checked earth connections seem fine ,is there a connection from the brake pedal which could cause the problem? could you give me any other ideas which could cause this problem thanks in advanced

Fuses and switches need checking too. I don't know the Xsara, but if it isn't an intermittent earth fault at the back end (NB: this would affect the flashers too), then my guess would be an iffy contact at the switch.
