I think I can hear a low hissing noise whilst driving my xm.

Do you remember the TV kid's programme Ivor the Engine? He used to make a noise: Psshhtecough is the best way to write it. Is this your noise? If so it's the valve on the accumulator sphere. Did your man change that? (I'm sure he did, but faulty spheres are not unknown, particularly as your noise went away for a short while.)

Can you hear the pump cycle in and out ???
It could be the regulator is never cutting out causing the pump to run all the time... My BX does the quite often at idle. If I give the motor a gentle rev it cuts out. I didn't worry about it 90,000kms ago when I bought the BX, and I still don't worry about it now[:D]
However in your case if the pump never cuts out, you really do need to fix it ASAP.

Hello people,thank's for your responses. Double chevron, I think you seem pretty close to the the mark here ,no disrespect to the others.
Allthough I dont think I have heard the the pump cycle in and out,
as I said earlier I get a constant low level hissing and when the engine is switched off, it's like suddenly letting go of a rubber balloon where all the air rushes out. switch of motor pause 2 - 5 sec's then one last loud hiss!

Hello people,just got back from a bit of local shopping.Driving up towards home about a mile away.When the lhm warning light came on,so we got home tppoed up the lhm,but I was pouring quite a lot in.Strange..? so I checked under the car and it is gushing out at the rear end ..!All this after forking out 200 quid in june for a full sevice and another 412 quid for a flow valve and a regulator. Just to recap, lhm is leaking from rear end just forward of the axle and it is in the middle.? Help..please.

You'd need to get under and take a look.

Sorry to use caps, but if you have a fractured pipe or loose union, the system could depressureise and crush you. Several folks have met their end this way.
And use goggles. Pressurised LHM is very nasty stuff indeed. I learnt this from a friend's BX. The car had been switched off for a couple of hours, and a leak had occoured. I wrongly assumed that pressure would be minimal. Nope! My first LHM shower. More like a prssure wash.
Above all, don't panic. LHM leaks are spectacular, but often the cause is a loose union or leaking seal.
Take a look first. It couls be a number of things. Help is available from a number of sources, online, but most folks will need more information. Take a digital photo if you can.

Hello rq, thanks I'm nowhere near mechanical enough to do that,besides I dont have any axle stands to use anyway.But thank you for the advice though. I've been home for an hour or so now and the car has sunk right down just as if was put on it's lowest setting.And I have a heap of green stuff to mop up.I think I'll call my insurance co get a replacment vehicle and get mine down to my local cit man in New Romney.As they are good people there.
As I think the flow valve and regultor are at the front of the car and this was leaking from the rear,cos I did manage to see where it was coming from whislt I had the car running on full height whilst putting in the LHM.

I am thinking that the origianl hsssing sound might be the A/C if fitted and operating.

Don't forget that low pressure can equal no brakes...
..make sure that any warning lights go out.
Don't worry. This is all part of the "engaging" side of XM ownership!
Maybe we should all drive a Toyota Yaris...

Thanks rq, I'm not going to drive it. As it's around 15 or 16 miles to my cit garage,I've spoken to insurance co . They will send the RAC out.
And as for the toyota yaris..!
Nah, nowhere near as exciting as my xm, keeps me on my toes..!

Well people, good news from my cit garage.Just a worn pipe at the rear of car .That's where all my LHM fell out.So pick car up tomorrow, thank's for your comments . Cheers,
