spare wheel

Hi everyone
Not really a technical problem as such but a word of warning, at lunch time today some git pinched my spare wheel from under my Xsara which was only parked for half an hour so I would recomend that you all check that your bolt is done up as tight as ou can get them.
They seem to have let the tyre down thus releiving the tension on the bolt and undone it with pliers/grips of some sort.
Where can i get a new spare wheel it was only steel but the bolt holes had different fittings to allow for the differnt bolts that are fitted for the 4 alloys that are on the car.

Common problem with Pugs and Cits.
There was a fix some time ago involving an optional locking mechanism available from dealers.
If you look in the centre on the back bumper of 306's, you see a little yellow warning sticker - it tells you there is a lock.
But I sympathise with you, it's a c**p situation to be in.

They are all B*st*rds! But tell me what the point is in nicking a spare wheel? Why do they want one wheel? or tyre? Or do they go round several cars and nick a set? And why would they want a set? What is their car running on at the moment? Or who would they sell it to? Or do they just want to inconvenience someone? Am I missing something but I don't get it - I can understand a set of expensive alloys but a steel wheel - there must be hundreds in scrappies for a few quid. What's the bl**dy point?

Because it's there, Phil. They just can't resist taking something that will turn a few pounds. And down at the back of the pub, they'll probably get more for a rim with decent tyre than they'll get for a radio that's lost its code.

Not even because it's there. It's because it's free! Why buy new tyres when you can get them for free? And what will the courts do? A fine of less than the price of a tyre, and that's if they even get found guilty.

If you consequently lower your car to its lowest position every time you park it, you:
1) give the hydraulics some well needed exercise . .
2) make it bloody difficult to engage wheel clamps . .
3) make it almost impossible to remove the spare wheel . .
Yep! Hydro - Citroën have it all, as standard!

If I remember rightly, the wheel-nicking problem was the real reason why Xantias started having slimline spares fitted as standard. (Mine's a 1995 N reg). Nothing to do with space-saving at all!
The logic of it went like this. What pillock is going to want to fit his car with four stolen slimline wheels that carry tyres rated only up to 50 mph? But yes, it would have made much more sense for Citroen to fit proper security as standard in the first place.
Especially since the Charlies who go round nicking the wheels won't even realise that they're damn near useless until they've actually removed them from your car. And once they've done that - well, might as well clear off with them anyway.....And probably dump them in a hedge.

Maybe slimline spares were only fitted to Xantias with alloys. Mine is a 1998 on 205/65's and the spare is similar.
