immobiliser key

please help my xsara sometimes fails to start its like the engine doesnt recognise the key after a long wait it starts advise please

On the dash board top left hand corner should be an orange square with a key symbol in it. Does this light up when you turn on the ignition and go off straight away?

does the light flash along with a beeping noise when the car fails to start ? if so its very posibly a faulty transpondre recever around the ignition barrel.
