xm starter motor

the starter motor on my 95 xm 2.5 is sometimes failing to engage,not even a click when i turn the key. repeatedly turning the key works so,any suggestions anybody?

My bet you have the AlanS syndrome : "always the starter mate" [8D][:D]

Anders,thanks for the expensive answer.also for the work it entails in getting it out.i don't suppose the starter from a 2.1 is the same because i've got one of those.
