306 hdi 2.0 mpg

hi i got my 306 in november it was doing about 100miles on £10
now its doing about 50 miles on £10 i know fuels gone up but not that much
it still runs the same no smoke etc pulls well

any ideas ???

First thing is to check the air filter, if that is clogged it will give you problems with economy.

The definitive way is to poke data into a spreadsheet.
Fill the tank, record the mileage and volume of fuel bought.

Do this each time you buy fuel and use the data to generate mpg/mpl
after a few fillups you will get a reasonably accurate estimate of your consumption.

Anything else is little more than guesswork.
It is also dependent on the type of driving, if you are loaded or empty, tyre pressures all play a part, as do road conditions.

Yours should do better than mine, I am getting 32mpg around town (shore, infrequent trips) and around 54mpg on longer runs.
Which is pretty much rubbish for a C5 2.0 HDi.

My daughter gets better consumption figures from my car even with the car jam packed, different driving style.

You could try contacting one of the Lexia/Peugeot Planet owners who have volunteered to read the ECU data for other members, some indication of a problem may show up.
One thing that may be deteriorating is the MAF, a replacement often gives remarkable improvements in power and economy.
As they are rather costly I wouldn't do this without seeing that there may be a problem with it.

i want a newer one any way so may just use it less till i can get a 2002 one

Got to be something wrong, my 406 Hdi is doing nearly 50 mpg, get a Lexia on it, but first do a brim to brim fuel test - much more accurate.

I noticed our mpg has dropped a fair bit recently. I'm putting it down to the cold,sometimes extreme cold weather this year, and the price of fuel

I'm old school,like the choke's on for ages,(even while de icing the flippin thing..)
nowadays I suppose it's all these darned sensors saying brrr,it's cold, over fuel,over fuel

Also as above, MAF, EGR etc?

What's it like on a run,mpg wise?

Just to be sure you are best to check the MPG rather than go on moneys worth of fuel used, as the price is fluctuating all the time.

You could try cleaning the MAF sensor, take it out and give it a good spray with electrical contact cleaner, without actually touching the sensor elements and reinstall. I usually do this on a service anyway, as it goes get dirty. Though it might also be failing.

Could be numerous other reasons my MPG might drop.

Mine was £130. I wasn't going to risk a knockoff one as rumour has it that they don't perform well and don't last.
