I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

I know these are a damn nuisance if you want to dismantle the joint so it can be washed out and re-greased properly, so here's the easy way to do it.
You need:
A short piece of metal bar if the same diameter as the projecting part of the joint. I used a 1/4 socket.
An O-ring that will fit the above (or an elastic band).

Ever since hard chrome plating was outlawed, most wheel nuts on alloys have little shiny plastic covers that you need to pull off to get a wheel brace on. That can be awkward if they are in deep holes on the wheel. I've struggled on one or two cars if they haven't been off for a while.

following an MOT failure on 'Rear Brake Imbalance' among other things, I decided I needed a new set of adjusters

So having worked out that my shoes are the LS1233 type (Lucas with Roll Pin as opposed to without )

I then realised I couldn't find any adjusters anywhere

So cross-referencing the list of other cars those shoes...

At a minimum need BSi, chip from key and possibly any other ECU from the original DW8 donor car. No guarantee this will actually work either as you're using a completely different engine type.

Far far quicker / easier to de-armour pump and fit a conventional solenoid to it.

Well, decided to bite the bullet having got my new condensor and fitted it today. Bit fiddly, but yes, it can be done without bumper removal, grille removal or complete fan carrier removal. For me, it worked out like this.

Regarding the cooling system on the 8v TU petrol units on these, if you can unhook the bottle and raise it slightly (some models have enough movement in the pipework to allow this), earlier ones usually as its not the solid plastic 'return' pipe, this can help as the extra 'gravity' from the bottle being higher helps....

Just a note for anyone that requires a replacement bsi or ecu.
If you purchase a 'complete set' off certain web based auction sites then you will require the vin number from the vehicle they were taken from. If you do not have the original vin then you will not be able to get the pin code to program in new keys or match ecu/bsi in the future.

Xac is having the seats from the VSX and will need to becomes a dab hand at removing the seats so I thought I'd be helpful and relate my recent experience.

For the front seats, you need a long T40 (IIRC) bit, 3/8 adaptor, a long extension and a good rachet (or rachet plus 12 (ish braeker bar) because the seat cushions get in the way and the bolts...

Quick update: The Xantia with the non standard cylinders have unions that are standard on the C5, so pipes can easily be made up using the C5 unions. Hi all.. not sure if this has been said before but i found today at least on hdi xantias that if you remove the double relay and then short pin 4 to pin 15 the tank fuel pumps runs constantly without the ignition on at all..

I assume petrols are the same as they use the same double relay do they not??

Mainly HDi's although a lot of this is generic too. This is aimed at those with a slow cranking speed rather than anything else.

Bear in mind with a HDi the ECU will not signal the injectors if the cranking speed is too low.

Given the higher compression on a diesel engine it takes more power to turn it so its essential to have a good, charged...

About more than a year ago tailgate wiper stopped working in my Xantia.
Wiper blade stayed on the half way :shock:
There was 12V at the motor end and the relay was also ticking at intervals when switched on from steering wheel control #-o
I decided to have a closer look at the motor and made it a weekend project.

If tackling this job, check the state of the metal blades in the gearbox - the tip of the power feed (the one nearest the centre) broke off on mine and caused a dead short which blows the fuse (that also runs the indicators!). I was able to solder a new one on (still to be tested ATM):

Something I should of posted a year ago if not more :oops: , probably only useful to XUD owners but possibly for anyone who needs a radiator blanking plug.

Anyway not sure how much use this may be but the openings for both rad fan switches and diesel waxstat (cold start cable) are the same.

Perhaps you have a radiator with a hole for a fan...

To add a bit more, the leakoff rubber caps that you usually find on the 'end' injector, these are also very useful for blanking off small vacuum ports (EGR being a good example or if you have a small 'T' in the vacuum line etc) if required too.

For pre 1995 cars there is no transponder at all, the key is copied as normal.
For post 1995 (UK spec) cars, transponders were introduced in an effort to combat theft, these used a 'fixed' code transponder.

Thanks, it worked a treat. i used some house hold fuse wire and about 1-2 min fiddling and i had both the Tacho and Speedo all sorted on my S1 Xantia. so tar, the virtual drinks are on me :beer:

Xantia anti sink valve leak

Leaks from the front anti sink valve are common. It can be repaired with an O-ring designed for the pump, info in this thread: anti sink valve repair

Possibly worth changing when the LHM tank is out for LHM change, as preventative maintenance!

This is going to be a more common occurance now the HDi is getting to 10 years old, and at first glance the job looks nigh on impossible, but in reality it is not that bad.

Given that the belt life is supposed to 100k / 10 years, fork out on a decent timing belt kit - I got an SKF kit for around £55+VAT. Get a new water pump too - otherwise it's...

Making a damper pulley puller

This post relates to removing the damper pulley which drives the auxillary belt. It is necessary to remove this pulley if you're going to change the cambelt which sits behind it.

Firstly, you need to remove the 22mm bolt and spacer securing the pulley to the crankshaft. Then refit the bolt minus the spacer.

In the PSA box, are Timken LM12749 tapered roller bearings.

Euro price for a genuine Citroën bearing is presently around EUR20 plus tax - EACH. I'm still smarting.

RockAuto and others sell the bearings for just over $4 apiece. Postage on the set won't make them dearer; no way.

Curiously, the grease seals are hard to find online but very...

MoT tester picked these up, and sure enough they were noisy, and rough when you spun them by hand. Of course this is a Xantia, so you can't just replace the bearings - you must replace the whole hub.

Tools list:
41mm socket & loooong handle.
17mm socket
Angle grinder
Cold chisel
Jack/axle stands etc
Wheel brace
8mm spanner & socket
Screwdriver...

I did this job today, using a home made bearing puller.

Interestingly, I managed to get the inner bearing off by hitting the notch around it with a hammer and small chisel. I started at right angles to the axle to start it moving, then angled the chisel outward.

The leather finish was coming off in various places and the stitching had burst here and there so the initial thought was to buy a better one. After many diversions I finally got around to finishing the seat off.

The leather was stripped back to remove all waxes and provide a key, several coats of dye applied followed by a several coats of satin finish then finally 3 coats of gloss finish. Here's how it looks before 'polishing' with leather care.
