Due to excessive server loading caused by some badly behaved 'bots' (automated content collectors), I have changed the anti-ddos settings on the site to be much more aggressive.

This has had the desired effect of reducing the server loading from 100% to about 10% (the other 90% was coming from just 8 IP addresses located in China).

Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just a note for anyone that requires a replacement bsi or ecu.
If you purchase a 'complete set' off certain web based auction sites then you will require the vin number from the vehicle they were taken from. If you do not have the original vin then you will not be able to get the pin code to program in new keys or match ecu/bsi in the future.

Xac is having the seats from the VSX and will need to becomes a dab hand at removing the seats so I thought I'd be helpful and relate my recent experience.

For the front seats, you need a long T40 (IIRC) bit, 3/8 adaptor, a long extension and a good rachet (or rachet plus 12 (ish braeker bar) because the seat cushions get in the way and the bolts...

Quick update: The Xantia with the non standard cylinders have unions that are standard on the C5, so pipes can easily be made up using the C5 unions. I assume petrols are the same as they use the same double relay do they not??

Mainly HDi's although a lot of this is generic too. This is aimed at those with a slow cranking speed rather than anything else.

Bear in mind with a HDi the ECU will not signal the injectors if the cranking speed is too low.

Given the higher compression on a diesel engine it takes more power to turn it so its essential to have a good, charged...

About more than a year ago tailgate wiper stopped working in my Xantia.
Wiper blade stayed on the half way :shock:
There was 12V at the motor end and the relay was also ticking at intervals when switched on from steering wheel control #-o

Something I should of posted a year ago if not more :oops: , probably only useful to XUD owners but possibly for anyone who needs a radiator blanking plug.

Anyway not sure how much use this may be but the openings for both rad fan switches and diesel waxstat (cold start cable) are the same.

Perhaps you have a radiator with a hole for a fan...

To add a bit more, the leakoff rubber caps that you usually find on the 'end' injector, these are also very useful for blanking off small vacuum ports (EGR being a good example or if you have a small 'T' in the vacuum line etc) if required too.

This is going to be a more common occurance now the HDi is getting to 10 years old, and at first glance the job looks nigh on impossible, but in reality it is not that bad.

Making a damper pulley puller

This post relates to removing the damper pulley which drives the auxillary belt. It is necessary to remove this pulley if you're going to change the cambelt which sits behind it.

Firstly, you need to remove the 22mm bolt and spacer securing the pulley to the crankshaft. Then refit the bolt minus the spacer.

I am delighted to report that I have finally cracked the problem I had with the cambelt tensioner locking bolt when I first attempted this job. The old tensioner is now off and a new one is waitiing to go on.

To be honest, it's as much work to have the covers off as it is ton change the belt. To do so means removal of the auxiliary belt, the crank pulley and the top engine mount.

Even then, there is nothing you can do to assess the condition of the belt. They generally look perfect and you cannot see any deterioration unless it's heavy oil...

In the PSA box, are Timken LM12749 tapered roller bearings.

Euro price for a genuine Citroën bearing is presently around EUR20 plus tax - EACH. I'm still smarting.

RockAuto and others sell the bearings for just over $4 apiece. Postage on the set won't make them dearer; no way.

MoT tester picked these up, and sure enough they were noisy, and rough when you spun them by hand. Of course this is a Xantia, so you can't just replace the bearings - you must replace the whole hub.

Tools list:
41mm socket & loooong handle.
17mm socket

Jack/axle stands etc

I did this job today, using a home made bearing puller.

Interestingly, I managed to get the inner bearing off by hitting the notch around it with a hammer and small chisel. I started at right angles to the axle to start it moving, then angled the chisel outward.

During the rebuild of the XM 2.1 SED I stripped down the struts, hubs and calipers. Most of it was straightforward, just needing wirebrusing, media blasting and painting. After many diversions I finally got around to finishing the seat off.

The leather was stripped back to remove all waxes and provide a key, several coats of dye applied followed by a several coats of satin finish then finally 3 coats of gloss finish. Here's how it looks before 'polishing' with leather care.

There seems to be a bit of interest on the forum on reusing old/second hand remotes, I remembered I had seen some information but forgot where.

Those handy with the soldering iron should be able to follow the instructions.

I still think that a new remote would be better though.

I had found that previously that the dipstick didn't fit too well due to the top yellow part getting older, and not staying secure.

Well the other day I went to check it, and the plastic broke apart, so now I had to renew it.

I ordered one from the main stealer, and was very pleased with it, as it was now a good secure fit in the dipstick tube....

Prior to having to change the dipstick, it had the habit of, with not being too secure, of coming up out of its tube.

If I had been aware of the bargain price (from the main stealer), and how much more secure a new one is in the tube, I would have been down to the main stealer sooner!

Hi, after much research conducted mostly by Vince a Manager @ GSF auto factors, we have found a compatable Caliper rewind Tool for the Citroen Xantia, THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE C5, sorry to shout but the C5 one has a left hand 3/8 thread not a right hand one. NOTE THIS DOES NOT FIT MY MK2 XANTIA after all that effort, please see the post below...

Although I now have an air operated brake rewind kit that has an adaptor to fit almost any car, I used a crafty little dodge to rewind the pistons on my HDI.

The end of a 3/8 drive extension bar on a ratchet ! The 3/8 square end fits very neatly into the recess around the outer part of the piston and the ratchet allows pretty rapid winding back !

Old one litre oil or coolant bottles are much easier. Cut off the bottom, slip a suitable sized o ring (old ZX bottom rad union) over the neck and wedge into the filler aperture on rad. Works a treat.
