C4 auto lock/unlock

Post by the2ems »

Recently change from a C3 Aircross to a C4 C-Series.
With auto lock/unlock activated, does the vehicle “deadlock”?

If it is the auto lock when the car goes above about 6 mph then it is not dead locked. You should see this when you stop since you can still open the doors from the inside with a handle without having to use an unlock button. You will not be able to open them from the outside though which is the idea behind it.

No Paul, he means actual deadlocking of the vehicle in relation to the hands free access with Auto Lock feature as on latest C4 C4X models.

If you walk away from the vehicle it will only lock and not deadlock. If you hear the 2 audible beeps when walking away with auto locking, it means the vehicle is not deadlocked.
To Deadlock the vehicle, you need to double-press the handsfree handle or double press the remote locking button.

Yes that’s the information I was looking for. Thanks for the replies

Another quick question about auto locking. If I walk away from the car to go into a shop for example, with the keys in my pocket, and leave my wife in the car. Won’t the alarm go off when she moves? It used to when I locked my grandson in the C3 🤔

Ok, so no. The alarm does not arm when auto locking from a distance. It will only arm itself when locking or deadlocking using hands-free handle sensor on the door or the locking button on the fob.

The C3 did not have auto lock, so a different system.

The internal volumetric sensors only kick in after about 45 seconds when the vehicle is locked from the fob or the hands free (not walk away distance auto locking). The exterior alarm protection activates after 5 seconds.

Thanks again 👍🏻

Although it does make me wonder why the car has it. If it doesn’t deadlock, and doesn’t set the alarm, what’s the point really?

Deadlocking has to be a voluntary decision for the following reasons I can see:

1) Yes, a good idea if you are leaving your vehicle for some time especially in car parks or overnight where even if broken into via the windows, thieves can't open the doors making it more difficult to get in or out of the vehicle with anything.
2) It does make it difficult for anyone to get into the vehicle in an emergency.

But as for the auto locking on walking away and approaching, I can only assume this is for convenience of going into a shop or anywhere that you're not going to be long so you have quick and easier access to the vehicle. But I certainly would actually lock it and deadlock it with the fob when leaving it for any length of time to enable the alarm.

The only issue I see with this system is that convenience of this system can easily make you forget it is only 'soft locked' and become complacent.

Couple of times this week I have walked away from the car causing it to lock, while the wife was sat inside. Being a woman, she decided to get out of the car on both occasions when I had gone indoors. On both occasions, the alarm sounded :(

I just noted when checking something that your C4 needs a BSI software update since 27/03/2024. Ref ML8, so I'd arrange to get this sorted as it may have an impact on vehicle systems.

ML8 - C4 (C41), C4X, DS7 - BSI Software

Update the BSI software.

I’ve messaged the dealer and am currently waiting for a response. Might give them a ring when I get home. Do what is a BSI update? Can it be done over the air, or is it a dealer job?
