Peugeot 508 MCP oil change

Post by trollkarlen »

I know that the oils in this gearboxes should last a lifetime.
But I think my car i almost on its second life time 😁

It has traveled 380000km now and lately i sounds like the gears mostly from neutral to first gear clonks a little louder. And the oil and job is not such a stretch either.

Is this a waste of time or should i do it ?
I guessed that the oil is Total gear 8 75W80 is that right ?

From my own experience I would say change it. I had a CX25DTR turbo many years ago I checked the oil several times in the first couple of years and it was always clean and full so I ignored it for the next 100,000 miles or so, I eventually had the synchro on 5th gear fail, when I came to look it the oil was black but it was all still there.

The car had done well over 200k miles by this time, I managed to repair fifth without removing the gearbox as it was located in the extension, but it taught me a valuable lesson.

Will measure the output to se how much was in it also 😁

Anyone else with a 508 1.6 hdi MCP gearbox that have gone this far?
And what usually breaks on these cars ?

Is it possible to check the level without dumping the oil ?
