Renault DCT Oils

Post by Bobster »

Hi guys,

Newbie here on the forum. Hoping to get some advice as to the correct oil to use in the DCT gearbox on my Captur.

Unfortunately this gearbox seems to be an unknown entity in my part of the world, although there are many cars running around with it in, no one seems sure how to service it.

Considering it is a dry clutch setup, I would imagine regular manual transmission oil should be fine, but which one? The specialised DCT oils are required for the wet clutch set ups, because the clutches run in the oil. But on this they don’t, so would my assumption about manual gearbox oil be right? If so, which brand/grade is preferred?

Also, is there any special procedure or tricks I need to know about if I do the oil change myself? Any tutorials/vids you can point me in the direction of. My Google searches have come up empty handed.

I’m assuming it’s a simple pull the drain plug, let the oil run out, put the plug back, fill to the filler hole and close it up… but then Renault aowmershio has taught me that everytime I assume it’s going to be simple, it simply isn’t?

Bobster...have you received any advice for the above?
Took me a while with research and searches to discover that the Getrag built box can be either wet or dry clutch DCT/EDC...the dry clutch versions are used by the lower power models and the wet clutch systems are used for more high power higher toque level engines.
Both Penrite and Nulon provide oils for the 'wet clutch' systems but no info on the dry clutch models.
I have been in contact with Renault Aust. but am waiting for a reply.
I just recently completed engine oil change and filter and have noted that the gear box has one drain plug at the bottom and a level/ fill plug up on the side bear the left hand drive shaft, it a plastic winged affair and there is also a filler tube just to the left of the battery.
