Ep6 5fs 5fw help

Post by Carmadrob »

Hi my Peugeot 308cc 1.6 vti 5fs engine has gave up so planning to replace engine . The price of a 5fs is to much for me but I've come across a 5fw with low miles . Would it be possible to fit the 5fw in my 308. Thanks

That isn't a normal engine code. Pop your VIN up so we I can see what you have.

Ok, so from what I can see the specifications are both the same in terms of power and RPM and Torque, however there are differences in the Oil Pressure between the 2 engines (see the bottom tables). I've checked the gearboxes too and these would appear to be the same ratios.

Are the engines different Euro specs? Maybe they use different grade engine oils (thinner on the later one) and run it at a slightly lower pressure in order to reduce power loss and hence improve efficiency.

That's correct Paul, the EP6 is a Euro 4 engine and the EP6C is Euro 5.

So the vehicle won't meet the legislation for which it was approved if the engine is changed for a Euro 4. - That may give you other problems with emissions values not being within tolerances and with car Insurance etc., so may be better to source the correct engine...

Thanks for the help everyone. I've already got the ep6 5fw engine today. So besithe euro 4/5 bit are you saying it should be OK. I take it the engine won't come out from top so do I take front off and slide it out.

You may find that some of the electric components (sensors, injectors, wiring harnesses etc) are different, and should be swapped from your old engine. It would be necessary to check the parts listings for both types to check this.

For discussion, how did your old engine die?

Will update on progress thanks. Before I do change engine I'm st trying to work out what's up with engine its bugging me lol. Start car and hold revs at 15000 rpm it's sounds good and revs up no problem but let it idle and after 2 mins it starts misfiring and eml light comes on and then fan kicks in full blast. Switch off and disconnected battery to stop fan draining battery. Reconnect battery and read code misfiring on cylinder 1, swapped coils over and plugs but still on cylinder 1. Clear code and start again, hardly any compression on cylinder 1 but why does it rev fine but Misfiring at idle. Timing ?

Low compression on one cylinder would certainly cause a rough idle, which would smooth out as RPM increases.

If the engine isn't blowing any smoke or excessively pressurising the crank case. I would guess that there is a problem with the valves on that cylinder. You might take of the top cover and check that you don't have a broken camshaft (causing the valve timing to be incorrect). Also check the valve clearances on that cylinder, which is the one furthest from the timing chain.

Thanks for that. No smoke and when I remove oil cap there's no excessive blow out. I have removed rocker cover a few times and cams look good but I did notice the two valve rocker fingers on cylinder 1 where loose. Not much but more then the others. It was exhaust valves.
