Hi Kenny

I assume I will need one but I've not looked at it yet. There is a seller on Ebay, Okzam UK, that sells complete repair kits including cable. I think my cable has a kink in it but I might just try and get someone and make one up in which case I'm not sure I'd need one as the full kit should contain one.

Having said that, he is currently out of the repair kits and he's not sure when he will get more back in stock so may be I should snap your hand off?

First things first. If I can even get original cable working that would be a fine start. I know the replacement guide clip is broken as I'd replaced it already once before.

If the cable DOES have a kink it will need to be replaced. I tried to re-use one that had kinked, and after a couple of 'events' I gave up and got the kit.

I know what you say makes sense. I'm obviously a sucker for punishment.

I think a chandlery may sell stainless cable of the right gauge and nipples that can be brazed. OUCH! Can't be difficult to make one.

How easy was it to fit the kit. Did you replace the large plastic spool wheel too?

It is fiddly, and I did replace the spool (as the kink in the cable had damaged it).

Hi Kenny. Please watch this space. I may need that clip if you still have it.

The seller of the repair kits still has not had any repair kits in since September.

Will get to look it in more depth next week after the MOT

Colin,

The first 2 regulators are Mk 2's and the 3rd photo is Mk 1.

Not managed to strip it down today. Decided to break the windscreen instead. 👍

I think Kenny is right from what I have seen but that also looks like a nearside.

I’ll know more tomorrow all being well.

OK. Kenny. The one in the top photo is bob on identical. I se the cables are all over the place though. Did it fail on you or did you just disconnect the cables? If the cables are kinked, I’m probably no better off.

Having said that, take a look at my cables on the other post. Totally trashed!

Re-wrapping the cable on is probably going to be a mate. I obviously don’t know if there is a ‘resting’ position for the clip and the its position.

Going to do a bit more research.

The ones which have just the bare cables are Mk. 2. The others where the cable has an outer sheath are Mk.1.

Have PM'd you.

Hi Kenny,

I'm having to resurrect this again as the regulator went again last night.

The kits are only available from Germany now (£17) but £26 shipping!!!

Do you happen to know if Mk 1 and 2 are interchangeable please? Of course, I may well lose the single press function and have to modify wiring perhaps?

I PM'd Colin last night in the hope that he still has the regulators. I need to go back through my photos on my phone and find out which side he has that is the good one.

When you did the repair kit conversion did you have the car for much longer after that and was the window function flawless in operation? Just seems a lot of money. I see that there are some aftermarket regulators available and quite cheap but they all have sheathed cables. I suppose if they fit and operate it doesn't really matter.
