Still photo opportunities to be had even if it does rain...

I know Jim, we go every september. Our tickets run out at the end of the month so we shall do two trips while we are 'up North'. There is a car show on Sunday so hopefully it wont rain this time. You can't do it all in a day as I'm sure you realised so it will just be the cars on Sunday.

Indeed, I could quite happily spend a week pottering around Beamish and even then I'd not be certain I'd seen it all or got to chat with everybody...

One thing I know I've not seen is their fish and chip shop... I believe it actually serves fish and chips. I just hope that can serve mushy peas too :)

I saw the bakery sells what it bakes...

Last time I was there the bakery was rammed with a queue a mile long... By the time I'd have reached the front the bread would have been stale!

And I really want to go down the drift mine :)

Been down the drift mine Jim, the roof is very low in places, interesting though. I fancied fish and chips last time we went there but they were closed. Its a coal fired range they are cooked on.

The miners cottages came from Hetton Le Hole which is where the wifes mother was brought up, I think she came from a family of about ten!

Some of the Catherine Cookson stories were made at Beamish, there was one on TV today called 'the Wingless Bird' which was made largely in the sweet shop.

Fred Dibnah used to visit there too, but I expect you know that.

There's a new chip shop in the 1950's town Middleton's Quality Fish and Chips

In the 1900's town Davy's Fried Fish Shop, with the coal-fired ranges I presume still is going so there is a choice of 2 Fish and Chip shops now.

That means I'll need to make two visits to sample both Neil!

I'll skip the chips and just have the fish and mushy peas Peter, that'll keep the costs down ;)

Do they cook them in beef dripping up there ? They do at Ironbridge and I my opinion it makes for a better fish and chips. :)
