Re: CCC National Rally 2017
Nice meeting again Bill and Alasdair(is that how it's spelt?) and the rest. My trip of 35 miles is so quick, the car has hardly warmed up when I get to Abbots Ripton!
I still don't understand why they are thinking of moving from this venue - the proposed new site is near Grantham so is even nearer for me. If your gonna move the venue why not move some distance to make it easier for some of you guys up north, down south or out west.

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
Well - no - but when they find an ideal site (Abbots Ripton) and then want to move about 45 miles away it makes you wonder why.
Either AR is okay or it's not, I can't see any problems with this site BUT if they are moving surely they should move some distance.

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
Having helped out in years gone by, finding a decent site that reasonably priced, has the right facilities etc is a lot harder than you think.
Moving around is a nice idea but if you go too far north people from the south won't come and vice Versa

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
I agree Tim but why I we moving when we have an excellent site.
Little Horwood has been used for years for the cmx/chevrons rally and the D rally without the need to move. That is a very long run from Scotland but people still go.

Grantham is about the same distance for me as Ripton just a bit more awkward to get to.

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
They are all hundreds of miles from me, yet I still try to get to one a year. Unfortunately health has ruled them out this year so far, and had i managed it wouldnt have been in a citroen, not doing that in an old smelly berlingo lol

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
Some more pics from the show.
This CX is the same model and year as my first Citroen evah! CX2000, mine was an electric blue colour and r/h/d, this bronze one was l/h/d. I was wandering round snapping away and I bumped into this charming couple and we started talking big Cits as you do. We must have been chatting for the best part of an hour, unfortunately I stupidly never got their names but asked the lady to give hubby a cuddle and I would take their picture. I told them about the forum and hopefully they will look in, a lovely lovely couple. More BX's.

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
I'm sorry but I still don't get it; neither of these venues are any more than a small field with some basic facilities on site BUT everyone seems to think they're wonderful. All I can say is, most clubs do better which is not to say their events are better, just that they tend to be held at places which people would visit, even if the event wasn't on.
As for whether it should move, that seems pointless, as it seems to be what everbody wants, UNLESS it's to a different type of venue. On the other hand, it is a major club's "National" & the convention is for such events to be held at different a venue each year (in a sense, taking the mountain to Mohammed) BUT, of course, that means it's largely dependent on a regional group being prepared & able to host the event & that, in itself, can be a serious obstacle.

Re: CCC National Rally 2017
True that for most it doesn't really matter that it is just in a field with some basic facilities as for most it is the cars and meeting other members that is the interest.
I do agree though that where there are other family members along that some other items of interest would be welcome.
The Burlghley House meet - X-Rally usually there - is a good example.
For my money, despite being a bit of a marathon trek for me, is RAF Cosford
Lots to see and do, decent catering and hard parking that can be advantageous when it is wet.
Took a bunch of my grandkids last time and they were overawed by it all, still talk about it (and about Mr Trainman's C6 that they got a run out in)
As Tim mentioned though, they do have to look at the costs involved when choosing a venue.
