Hi,
Recently I decided to convert my GSA 1981 to C-matic as it was years ago.
I got gearbox out of GSA 1983 which included parking lock gear which is different from earlier models.
I found out that it is hard to find litrature or photos on C-matic gearbox, especially regarding G type.
Strange question ;
The gear shifter/selector movements with my gearbox does not Mach any of both schems shown below.
All photos shows parking lock stage with the left shaft backwords.
According to the book manuel, the parking lock gear achieved by moving the shifter to the right and backwords....but mine is achieved by moving it to the right and forward. The first gear and reverse gear are the same as shown at 2 scheme.
I wonder if it is a mistake...or we are facing some kind of self evolution...

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
Are you compensating for the fact that moving the gear lever in the car forward or backward, moves the gear lever on the gearbox the opposite way? I know this is the situation with the manual gearbox, but only assume it is the same with the C-matic.

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
Thank you Derek.
Is anyone have Gs/Gsa C-matic ?
I would like to have photos of the components in the car and share knowledge.
Thanks

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
Hi,
The shifter was stuck.
Plastic part is broken. That part control the reverse switch lights.
I am looking for this part used or new, if anyone can assist.
Thanks,

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
Get that 3D printed, there are many people who can do that for you quite cheaply.

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
Would a 3D printed part have the temperature/oil resistance needed?

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
Hi
I already considered that idea and got the same impression that plastics that used with 3d are not fit high temperature invayerment.
The Cmatic gearbox comes with radiator to cool the fluids.
Another option is to shape it by CNC and by hand. Complex part.
Or maybe to give up and implement a reverse switch manualy.
I believe that new part is not achievable. But maybe someone has in his back yard unused old tackle gearbox...

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
If re-creating that part is not an option, and its only function is to actuate the reverse light switch, would it be possible to start with a clean sheet, and fit a switch to another part of the shift/gearlever mechanism, which would operate when R was selected?

Re: C-matic gearbox challenge
If not 3D printed, then if you have all the parts of the piece, get it milled out of nylon....any good machine shop can "pantograph" a flat part like that very quickly.
