Automated weather station maybe.

Amongst the bits of kit on that pole are wind direction and speed instruments, and temperature and humidity sensors.

Bludgeoning mildly off-topic with little apology this could well be the perfect amalgamation of words and patina on a direction sign. So pleased it's still there and hasn't been "restored" It's just about perfect as it is :-D

Gets even better with a couple of clicks to enlarge to the max :-D

I thought finger post signs had to have a hand/finger pointing in a direction. If that's not the case I can get involved in this

Signpost noticers who have passed through England's Highest Market Town may have spotted this...interesting that the highly insignificant Scotch Corner even gets a mention here...

Not really fingerpost but worth a post! This notice is on the post of a road sign, presumably for the benefit of short people or maybe the youth of today: :-D

Normal height or older people merely need to raise their eyes to the top of the same post!!! :-D

This roadside milestone finds a complimentary home in this thread. This has had a bit of a refurb and been incorporated into a new stone wall.

All makes perfect sense when you realise the "J"s are ones.

London 318 miles
Edinburgh 60 miles
Morpeth 31 miles
Cornhill 13 miles

This sign spins round with the slightest touch and had to be reinstated to its correct orientation. Still as it turns out the only road which didn't subsequent have a road closed sign and a flood was the one which took you back to Wooler.

Nice that Jim, I always regard this thread as a home for milestones, and interesting/unusual direction signs, as well as
the fingerposts. Yes and just an occasional "post Warboys" bludgeon off-topic too if it has an interesting enough story behind it :-D
