More about TENTBOX here cheaper than a motorhome, more comfortable than attempting to sleep in a car, 3-person capacity, Fold-out opening system, takes 5 mins, Skylight to watch the stars
Ladder, mattress & fixing kit included

The UK’s #1 roof tent, built to last designed in the UK,

I can just imagine that in a sea breeze off the Blackpool beach, my friends had the fright of their lives sleeping in a VW camper, thought they were going to be blown over.

Pretty grim, and not one for the VW camper purists :rofl2: , but a great idea for a cheap camper van nonetheless - buy an old chassis cab and plonk a caravan on the back 8-)

Wasn't built, it's the result of a reversing accident. :)

I can't really see the point, either practically or any sort of romantic or eccentric notion, compared to an ordinary tent next to it on the ground.

Lighter, cheaper, etc

Edit: I see that this doesn't come with its own mounting frame; it will rest on other brand roof bars.

Several roofbars have about 75 or 100 kg maximum capacity. That might be just while moving, with a higher limit for static. More research needed for those interested.

But the roof load isn't set by the producer of the bars. It's set by the car maker. The technical specification sheet for a C5 estate states "Max Roof Load 75Kgs". Presumably other vehicles may have a higher load rating.

I think both car and bar manufacturers specify a weight limit. The 3 bars I looked up at random said 75, 100, 90 kg.

That tentbox thing weighs about 50 kg on its own, and says it's for up to 3 people ...

I bought a secondhand mountain tent on eBay, and a larger self inflating mattress that keeps my kit off the ground as well. Much more practical. Surprised some friends by using it in October in Scotland.

Saw one of these days today and had a nice chat with the owners. Always liked these, and the one they had was in excellent condition.

Saw this today, the original mobile home, made from a caravan.

Too stingey to pay for a subscription.

Apparently his caravan got stuck in the mud so he shoved a motor in it.

I have a healthy interest in campers and caravans as well as classic cars so I often trawl all sorts of weird corners of the net to satisfy my curiosity. It is not often you can combine that with French classics let alone Skip Trucks, Tippers and Beer Tankers.
Watch this YouTube video and persevere to the end to find his green 2CV 2 berth camper conversion - it is just as bonkers as his red Acadiane 5th wheeler. Enjoy!
