I have one of these air coolers, and this photo shows the 'gubbins'. As you can see, there are two water tanks (with the red maximum line for freezing the water), and their caps have a plunger valve (so you can take the tanks out of the air cooler, fill them up, and put them back in without spilling any water). You can see the stem (in the 'boxed off' section) which opens the valve when the tank is put back in and the cover is closed. The 'filter' is cleanable and (if needed) replaceable, and wicks up the water. The fan has three speeds, which (at its lowest setting) provides around eight hours of cooler air (provided the tanks are full of water at the start), which does make a 'muggy' night survivable. It has 'mood' lighting, which looks pretty during the day, but can be turned off so it does not keep you awake.

It evaporates the water. Not the best - but it works.

If anybody is interested petrol stations run by the Motor Fuel Group are selling a 1080p dash cam for just under £20. You will need to get a MicroSD card for it to record on (it will support up to 32GB), and it looks like you have to use a phone app to configure it (as there is no screen; however, that is a bonus as it means it cannot distract you while you are driving).

Totally NOT car related, but Lidl are doing a few health products next Sunday (21/05), including a blood pressure monitor and an oximeter. They both have Bluetooth capability. I have these already (as there is a family history of heart issues);

Well, if we can have one none car related item then we can have a second. A bit niche this one though.

I wanted to buy some pipe sealant called Hawk White. Because it usually goes off before I can use it all I only wanted the 200g tin. I went to the local Wolseley branch as they advertised it at £3.26 plus vat online. They didn't have the 200g tin in stock but they did have the 400g tin. I had previously priced it at £5.42 plus vat on the website but was extremely pleased to be told that it was coming out at £2.06 plus vat.

It didn't exactly make my day but it certainly made it bit more bearable!

I bought a set of the flexible ratchet spanners about ten years ago and they have been very useful.

I'm having that problem at the moment, trying to change the cam belt on the C5, some you can't see and others you can't, you have to undo half a flat at a time due to lack of space. I have some ratchet spanners but you cant use them because there isn't room at the side to get them over the nut/screw. The space is so limited that the first one I tried to undo with a 1/4" drive ratchet I couldn't get the ratchet off the socket and had to screw it in again and this is just to get the covers off!.

Peter,
That sounds close to Citroen welding the alternator pulley nut to our C4 rendering repair impossible. Dealer replacement price £1900 - and all this at a smidge over 40,000 miles. Have run 3 cars over 200,000 (not all mine!) without problem - and on the same clutch too 8-), all whilst suffering similar knocking from the nearside (as per long previous post) due to wife's handbag :rofl2: .
Still can't get over 40,000 mile life :x Anyone else had such a short life from an alternator or found deliberate short term redundentsy built in? :twisted:

I had XMs for about ten years and a couple of them had done nearly 300k miles, one of them I believe had the original clutch, it did slip if you pushed it had but I never did and it was still driving OK when I sold it quite a few thousand miles later.

The best cars I had were the Peugeot 406s they just never went wrong, well very rarely, best car they made in my opinion, ran them for 10 years.
