The only other option is to take the old one out get diameters and have one machined.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Not something that I have ever looked for, but seems "steering rack bushing" brings up the right kind of thing:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284156734707?
NOTE! Just an example, stated as fitting a Meriva, not suggesting this is what will also fig a C5 rack!
So perhaps is a chance to buy these spares?

Yes, that is exactly that I'm looking for the C5. I wonder if any know where to buy it.MattBLancs wrote: ↑08 Jun 2023, 07:30 Not something that I have ever looked for, but seems "steering rack bushing" brings up the right kind of thing:

I had already change that bushing in my ex-C3
But I can't find for the C5
Look like there isn't something like for C5 on the web

Sorry Marc I thought I had responded to this thanks for the infoGiveMeABreak wrote: ↑05 Jun 2023, 18:40 There's nothing related to the steering wheel angle sensor as it's integrated into the clock spring unit IIRC and the calibration procedure is guided from Diagbox. I'll see if I can dig something more out, but I'm doubtful as the unit is considered a replaceable part - with the calibration via the diagnostic tool.
^^ As Stu says ^^

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Hi again everyone, particularly speaking to Stu and Marc here……
Just recently refitted a rebuilt rack….. again! And had to re-centre the steering wheel along the way. In a post a couple of weeks ago both Marc and Stu were talking about recalibrating the esp with Lexia. I recently bought a lexia from bobins, I’ve only used it once to reset my tyre pressure sensors, all went ok. But, that’s the only thing I’ve ever done with it so I’m very unaware as to how I’d find the esp calibration in lexia. Don’t suppose either Marc or Stu could shed a little light on where I need to go in diagbox to do this?
Many thanks

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
It's not the ESP calibration, it's specifically recalibration of the steering wheel angle sensor.
As I don't know which version of DB you are using, it may be easier to run a Global Test, then when that is completed, locate the ESP ECU from the list of ECUs detected. Then select that, and confirm, then you should be presented with a menu of items related to this system. Be careful what you do here, but you are looking for the option as mentioned above. It may be in the repair section, I can't say as I've never needed to do this and no longer have my X7. The procedure should be guided - it will tell you what to do.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Excellent. Thanks Marc, appreciate that.
So basically, I need to tread very carefully around the ecu’s when I’m in there.
I might get my high tech mechanic friend to get on board with me for this. Probably safer
Thanks again

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Hi lads just a picture of the steering rack I rebuilt it's now in the car still a few bits to do but on the home stretch now.I am not able to get a clip onto the top of the boot just no room. I have it connected to the steering column which was a bit of a pain trying to get the bolt in but I think everything is lined up correctly now. I won't know until I have the engine in. There is a mark on the steering column, angle sensor and steering wheel to line up but the steering wheel won't go on any other way so I think it's fool proof as long as the rack is centered.

Sorry can't remember exactly how to get to the correct menu, but as Marc says do global test then work from the ESP section.
You can move around different sections and menus without making changes, if in doubt use the back button - as I am sure its only the green tick that makes a change.
The angle sensor calibration is easy to follow, just make sure your laptop battery has a good charge.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Marc, Stu……
I got there in the end. First time round I got to steering angle calibration, successful. Turned everything off, unplugged and turned the car back on, esp fault immediately pinged up, followed by 3 brake faults, abs fault, rollback fault and handbrake fault. Couldn’t really test the rollback or abs on the drive but handbrake seemed to be working fine.
Went back into diagbox, steering angle sensor calibration successful again. Then went into the fault codes. Cleared everything.
Switched off and unplugged now everything’s fine. Only taken it round the block so far but fingers crossed it’ll all be ok.
Thanks for your advice lads, really appreciate it

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Hi lads just an update the steering rack isn't sorted. I thought it was but discovered it's leaking from the left hand boot so one of the outer seals has failed I think this may have been the original problem rather than the pinion.

1 forward but 2 back, commiserations!
Thinking aloud: if tie rod unscrewed at inner joint, could this left hand seal be replaced with the rack still in the car? Or moed hassle than getting the rack out to attack it? Sorry I haven't yet had a rack in bits to know the answer to that question.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
I don't know Matt to be honest. I'm going to have to walk away from it for a few weeks I think. I am at the end of my tether with it at this stage. I need to attack the garden for a while it's getting out of control and I think I will end up in divorce court if I don't for a while. I am having a lot of issues with getting the car running. I also noticed my wipers are gone one sided again so needless to say regretting buying it. It doesn't want to play ball at the moment so leaving it for now.
