Re: C5 2.0 HDI Timing belt change schedule
If the quoted prices are genuine, I also reckon it's not worth risking a ruined engine for a couple of hundred quid. 10 years is certainly too long but I might be able to live with 80,000 miles or so. (for the diesel)

Its the peace of mind too, as you never know when a cambelt or tension is about to let you down, ruin the engine and leave you stranded.

Getting close to 100k with mine and had a look at the manual. 120k is the recommended mileage to change cambelt under normal conditions (not sure how they define normal) but also seen 160k here http://www.helpfindmea.co.uk/cars/specs ... 39317.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;qprdude wrote:If the quoted prices are genuine, I also reckon it's not worth risking a ruined engine for a couple of hundred quid. 10 years is certainly too long but I might be able to live with 80,000 miles or so. I think I will have it checked at the next service and if Citroen has any other deals like the one for disks/pads earlier this year I will replace it.
Price is £345 at the dealer but if they offer it for £250 I might do it sooner.

Re: C5 2.0 HDI Timing belt change schedule
Hi Folk,
This was my original post when I was buying my C5 and I've not posted anything since I bought it but my C5 has now done 139,500 miles and I'm thinking of getting the timing belt done along with the water pump.... it was done when I bought the car 4 years ago at 74,500 miles so it's only 65,000 miles.
I'm wondering if as the recommended change is 100,000 with a suggested change at 72-80,000 miles if I could leave it a bit longer or if I'm as well biting the bullet and doing it sooner rather than later, it's just I'd £340 to fork out getting it through the MOT and another £118 for 2 Dunlop Sport Blueresponse tyres the other week so money is a bit tight.... can anyone give me an idea on what it's likely to cost, the kit on EBay is about £70 but garages can be funny about fitting supplied parts.
As always thanks for your help and words of wisdom.
Peter

Re: C5 2.0 HDI Timing belt change schedule
For a 2002/3 car £2000 seems an awful lot of money My 2003 2.2HDI (in very good condition & a full & up to date service history)is only valued at £300 in part ex for a new car. you can find them on any motoring site for around £500 up to £1k
& yes recommended change for belt change is 100k but at 109k Iv had mine done twice together wit pump & pully
Sorry folks, just noticed the date of the OP 2010
