citroen c5 x7 P0299 after valves guides replacment

Post by verdi »

Hi All
I've replaced valves guides, due oil consumption on my C5 2011 1.6 156hp at professional garage.
After a few Km I felt that the power of the car is not as it was - became worst and a warnning engine lamp turned on.
the scanner show P0299 so I went back to the garage who checked air leakage, hoses conecttions, turbo, boost pressure sensors - Whatever...
I should come back again to the garage.
my question is what could cause the problem due of valves guide replacment unless reasons above?
might be uncorect timing?
any ideas?

Many Thanks
Verdi

Before I can provide you with the fault code synopsis, I need to know which variant of the BOSCH MED. You will have a label on the engine ECU that states whether it is a 17.4 or 17.4.2. This makes a difference to the fault description, so if you can supply that I can provide the correct info. In the meantime, here is some info for this fault on a DS3 with this engine, so at least you can see the checks.

Origin
Booster circuit.

Intervention
Controls of the air intake and vacuum circuit for the boost pressure regulation function.
Turbocharger control.
Replacing the turbocharger air intake duct (if necessary).
Replace the boost pressure regulation control solenoid valve (if necessary).
Replacement of vacuum circuit pipes (if necessary).
Turbocharger replacement (if necessary).

Control 1
Check the absence of air leaks at the turbocharger air intake duct:
If an air leak is detected: Perform intervention 1
If no leak is detected: Carry out check 2

Control 2
Start the engine.
Disconnect the connector from the boost pressure regulation control solenoid valve.
Check the presence of a vacuum at the outlet of the pressure regulation control solenoid valve.
supercharging:
In the presence of a depression: Carry out intervention 2 (The pressure regulation control solenoid valve
boost pressure is not tight)
If there is no depression: Reconnect the regulation control solenoid valve connector
boost pressure; Perform check 3

Control 3
Measure the vacuum at the inlet of the boost pressure regulation control solenoid valve
engine running:
If the depression is less than 0.8 bar: Carry out intervention 3
If the vacuum is equal to or greater than 0.8 bar: Carry out check 4

Control 4
Remove the catalyst.
Check the turbocharger wastegate (1).
P0299.png
In the presence of traces of wear (in "a") or in the presence of cracks (in "b"): Carry out intervention 4 (The relief valve
discharge (1) of the turbocharger is no longer watertight).
In the absence of signs of wear (in "a") and in the absence of cracks (in "b"): Do not apply this document; Perform
thorough troubleshooting.

Intervention 1
Bring the air intake back into compliance (Replace the air intake duct) (if necessary).

Intervention 2
Replace the boost control solenoid valve.

Intervention 3
Replace all the pipes of the vacuum circuit of the boost pressure regulation function (Pipes
connecting the vacuum pump to the boost pressure regulating solenoid valve and the pneumatic control
of the turbocharger pressure regulation valve).

Intervention 4
Replace the turbocharger.

Ok, here you go:
Fault Code: P0299
Description of Fault: Turbocharging pressure regulation fault: Turbo pressure too low. Turbo pressure too low: Turbo regulation at the minimum limit.
The difference between the reference turbo pressure and the actual pressure falls below the threshold of -0,1 bars or -0,12 bars if there is an error in the camshaft dephasing system. No confirmation time.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics:
The following conditions have to be met:
- Engine management ECU in main triggering phase
- Turbo regulation active
- Atmospheric pressure higher than 0,8 bars
- Engine speed above a threshold dependent on atmospheric pressure
- Turbo pressure valid
- No power step error
- Extra delay dependent on the engine speed after these conditions are active
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met:
- Deactivation of the turbo regulation 8 s after the appearance of the fault
- After engine restart (If the difference between the reference turbo pressure and the actual pressure exceeds the threshold of - 0,1 bars or - 0,12 bars if there is an error in the camshaft dephasing system)
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the turbocharger regulation (Electrovalve forced wide open)
  • No authorisation of checking of the power stage of the dump valve
  • Reduction of load applied to revert to the behaviour of a naturally-aspirated engine (The maximum load is limited by the mapping : 110 % to 2000 rpm ; 40 % to 6500 rpm)
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: Warning lamp MIL
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger pressure regulation electrovalve
  • Compressor discharge solenoid valve
  • Vacuum pump
  • Vacuum duct for the diaphragm of the turbo pressure regulation electrovalve

Do you see any link to the fact, that the problem appeared due to valves guides replacment? (Like uncorrect assemble of timing chain?)
