Re: C5 X7 2.0 hdi auto electronic parking brake problem
Hi. Had a similar experience with a Bmw X5 three years ago. Bmw wanted to replace the entire EPB system for a hefty sum - ZAR19 000.00. So I decided to look on my own to confirm their diagnosis. I placed the rear axle on ramps and proceeded to dismantle the EPB system starting with the actuator. Once the actuator was loose, I disconnected the cables to the wheel hubs. It turned out one of the cables was broken at the hub end. Once I loosened the the two cable sheaths and disconnected one cable from the actuator, the actuator sank to the ground with the remaining cable sliding out of its sheath like a snake. I sourced a new cable from Bmw for ZAR620.00. Upon completion of re-assembly I attempted to manually rest the EPB without success. I did not have a diagnostic tool then, so I had to take the car to Bmw for the reset to done via computer. That cost ZAR700.00, and the EPB was perfect again. The actuator should be easy to spot under the car between the rear wheels.

Citroen only sell the complete handbrake control unit. You'll have to try and source one from a car dismantler I think - or buy a second hand one.

Are they fitted on any other car? Perhaps Peugeot 407 or 508?

I believe they're the same on the 508.
The cables are the same which probably means the electronics are and the operating motor almost certainly will be.

No, these are different Mike. The 508 version may look similar, but have different part numbers and have physical differences, but there is no way to tell what is inside them of course without physically getting one and dismantling it.
The 407 never had an electronic handbrake.

Good luck with that! Seems a job, but if it works, great.
It's another reason to make sure the electronic handbrake is put in maintenance position before callipers are changed or any other maintenance using the diagnostic tool and also to disconnect the battery after doing so, to make sure that the handbrake is not automatically applied when the ignition is switched on before you take it back out of maintenance mode or this can lead to damage.

Someone tried to disable the electric parking brake to replace it with a manual brake ?
Errors still occur? Hill assist works?

Not recommended - a completely different system, different cables, fixings, the centre console will need replacing to accommodate the manual handbrake, the ESP/ABS ECU and BSI will need reconfiguring and you will lose hill start assist functions as a minimum. What other errors you may get I can't say.

Re: C5 X7 2.0 hdi auto electronic parking brake problem
Has anyone swapped the electric e-brake for a manual one? I opened the box about two years ago and changed the cables for news ones from Poland. In the last winter something froze and the system is disabled again. Since it's an automatic I only really need the e-brake for MOT and maybe some more rare occasions. Thought about swapping it for a manual e-brake since the electric one isn't that reliable.
The parts that I think I would need:
The questions that remain:
The parts that I think I would need:
- E-brake lever
- Center console
- Brake lines
The questions that remain:
- Are there plugged holes in the floor for the lines?
- Are there welded nuts for the brake lever assembly?
- E-brake light sensor wiring?
- Is it possible to recode the car so the system wouldn't look for the EPB module?
