Xantia 110 HDi Bosch ECU Test

Post by Edhertz »

I’ve got myself a spare Bosch ECU but I'm not sure what state it's in. The seller describes it as tested but at the price I got it .....hmm. I can plug it in and see how it goes but a side of me says I should approach it with caution as it’s history is unknown other than the product code is the same. The reason for the caution is that from previous work experience it was not unknown for corrupted circuit boards to affect peripheral components. This may not be the case here so I’d welcome your views and experience in advance,
Cheers Alan

One thing to be aware of, your car may adopt whichever is the higher mileage of its existing ecu or if the spare ecu is higher it may adopt that.

Good point. If that is correct mileage should return when existing ECU is replaced.

No it will not if this mileage thing applies to your car, the car will still keep the highest mileage since it also goes to the speedo unit. Swapping the speedo unit for another one also has the same effect of the car taking the highest mileage of the speedos since that puts it in the ecu. If you do swap the ecu over, make sure you take a photo of the original mileage which you might need for the insurance company if you make a claim, unless you have unlimited miles on your policy. MOT time it will also be on the records and for servicing. You might be able to get the ecu mileage changed by a diagnostic but I am not sure.

The ECU will also need to be recoded to unlock the immobiliser, unless you have the matching CPH and keys.

On a Xantia the mileage is only stored in the instrument panel so you can swap the ECU or CPH without any milage problems.
You really also need the matching CPH & key from the same car as the ECU came from as the car wont start if you just plug it in as its matched to the previous cars CPH & key.
