Tightening my doors

Post by Dunkah »

Hi all, I have a 2008 c5 x7 tourer. I’ve just been trying to tighten my doors up a bit, it occasionally sounds like I have a window slightly open, which I don’t so I thought maybe I need to tighten up my doors a little, unfortunately it doesn’t seem doable. The striker plate fixed to the body had no movement in it at all, and once the door cards are off so I can access the lock fixed to the door, it offers no movement too, well, maybe a tiny bit but only about 1mm. So it’s obviously not supposed to be adjusted. Can anyone advise anything that I might be missing? Thanks

Have you checked around the door mirrors for the noise ?

Do you have a roof rack fitted? Sounds like a stupid question because it is. I had an Astra Estate with a roof rack that would whistle at times, removed the roof rack and the whistling stopped. Just an idea.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Not stupid at all. I do have a rack, but I’ve had the rack since I owned the car and the noise seems to have gotten worse in that time. Might be worth trying it without the rack though, thanks

The most likely cause is that the door rubbers have deformed and with the slight movement of the doors due to aerodynamics, the seal is not sealing.

To isolate similar noises, you can seal up the door with masking tape applied to the door and window gaps and go for a drive.

That’s quite a good idea, could seal each door individually to know where it definitely is coming from
Thanks

Had to replace my drivers door rubber seal a while ago, (not the easiest thing to find a good one in a scrappy).
I replaced it as the area adjacent to the door lock had split, probably due to drivers backsides rubbing on the frame when getting in and out.
