Lucas epic problem

Can anyone help with a wiring problem please.
On a Lucas epic pump I found some bare wires hidden inside the sleeving, would these cause the pump to only supply a low pressure at the injectors or do I have a mechanical problem also. It’s the blue and the brown wires that appear to go to a solenoid between the pump and the engine

They will generally play havoc with the signals from the ecu to the pump. It is a common problem. Move the wires as little as possible or more will lose their insulation. The 2 heavier gauge wires operate the stop solenoid in the pump, the other 11 (if it's the same wiring as the PSA/Merc version) control the other solenoids and the advance etc. I ended up cutting all my wires on my 406, ONE AT A TIME, and soldered new lengths in between the pump and the plug protecting the solder joints with heatshrink. The condition of the wires will be the same the further you strip the outer sleeving.

Thanks Pete , those wires go to a solenoid located between the four injector pipe outlets on the end of the pump, which I have now removed, how do I test it and what does it do please. Michael.

The 4 on the end of the pump include the stop solenoid, the heavier ones. I haven't got a manual for the 1.9 Renault epic but I have for the 2.1 PSA if you'd like a copy (courtesy of Jim many years ago)
