Xantia A/C question

Post by spacial awareness »

Hi, I've been reading the various threads on the forum but wonder if someone can help me.

I've acquired a '98 Xantia 1.9TD left hand drive, in amazing condition inside and out.
Only issue is non functioning A/C. Being in Southern Spain that is an essential!

Had the gas checked by a mobile service and there is gas there. He is on hand to vacuum it out and recharge it when needed but has left it charged whilst I do my detective work. He did a temporary link direct to the compressor plug, the clutch engages and the AC works, nice cold air inside.
The blower in the car works on all speeds.

Pressing the AC button on the dash turns on the rad fans but doesn't engage the clutch. I took off the pressure switch plug there is 12V to the switch. I bridged the 2 fatter cables, nothing. There is continuity on the pressure switch corresponding to the 2 fatter cables, so I'm assuming that means the pressure switch is working correct as there is gas in the system. In any case bridging the contacts on the plugs does nothing.

Where does the feed go after the pressure switch? Does it go to a relay somewhere which then sends supply to the compressor? If so where is that relay? I can see some relays above the foot pedals but not a clue which one is which, or should I be hunting elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That's a great piece of info, thank you. Just another question, is there another page for the codes, seems that the AC stuff is in the 8000's and the list ends in the 6000's
If I can find the location of relays and description of what I'm looking for I should be ok to whittle it down.

Chris I really appreciate that, especially on a Sunday, to be honest I wasn't expecting such a prompt response in the first place!

Many thanks again, I shall have a go this coming week and report back.

Success! It was one of the contacts that had pushed through the casing under the compressor relay 8005. Bit of a faff to pull the terminal back up through the opening but I got it in the end. What was happening was that as the relay was pulled out the contact was there and visible, pushing the relay back in the socket was pushing the terminal back into the casing but no contact being made.
And then finally that satisfying click of the compressor clutch engaging and cold dry air coming through the vents! It's 39C here at the moment so..................

Thanks for your help.
