Hello good people of French car forum,
I am on my fifth hydro Citroën and a dedicated hydro fan. My current car is a 2011 C5 tourer 165hp Exclusive, very nice indeed but it's about time for a new(er) car and since someone at Citroën got it wrong and ordered the stop of hydro, I am in the market for my last hydro car. It's going to be yet another C5 Tourer Exclusive with the works, but I am drawn to the 2.2 Hdi 200hp. The specs look good, identical tourque compared to the V6, fewer ponies but I presume a better fuel economy. But I'de like to read some real life experiences with that exact powerplant. Here in Denmark they're really rare, but I was hoping some on this forum might shine some light on ownership experience with the 2.2 200hp version.
Hope to hear from you
Best regards
Dane

Re: C5 2.2 200hp owner experience?
Hi
I have one, and it is a lovely unit with the auto gearbox
I was looking for the V6, but the 2.2 has the same amount of torque
On motorway driving it is economical, 44-45mpg
What else would you like to know?
Jack

Re: C5 2.2 200hp owner experience?
Hello Jack,
Thank you very much for your reply. What I was hoping to hear was just general experience of owning, running cost. I've read some complaints about the EAT6 gearbox being a little jerky in slow moving traffic. Are there any niggles to that exact engine? I' currentlydrive a 2011 2.0 Hdi 163hp coupled to a 6 speed manual box, a very solid unit. I've been extremely happy with that one, but the added grunt of the 2.2 unit and the delight of an auto gearbox would be welcome advances to the car I'm driving currently.
Like you, I initially searched for a V6, but comparing output on those two units and the expected higher running cost of the V6 puts the 2.2 in favour.
How do you find the sound of the 2.2? I find the 2.0 surprisingly quiet.
Best regards
Dane

Re: C5 2.2 200hp owner experience?
Hi
I do mostly motorway miles and at a steady 70-75mph I returned calculated average of 47mpg.
The lowest was whiles carrying a canoe on the roof, it was down to 39mpg
I found the car quiet, whiles on the move, I cannot hear the engine above the noies of the wind or tyres.
I had a Audi A6 with a CVT gearbox, and that gearbox was extremely smooth, the AM6 is less so but not jearky.

Get one you won't regret it. Smooth quiet and pulls like a train. Along with the 3.0 it's the most desirable spec and should hold its residual value over time.

Thank you very much for your replies. I've now gone and bought a 2015 C5 Crosstourer with 2.2 Hdi 200 and all the nice extras. Found it in Germany so I had the chance to test it on the 700+km drive home. It is a in all regards a step up from my previous 2.0 Hdi 163 Exclusive with a manual gearbox. The new one is quiter, pulls a lot stronger and with the EAT6 it is a very smooth drive. I'm already looking forward to taking it to the south of France in the summer next year.
Thank you again for replying to my question.
