URGENT! Do Xantia saloon seats fit Estate?

Hi guys!

Sorry to post an SOS message first time around, but I'm in desperate need of some advice and none of my local Citroen breakers can help me!

Questions:

1) Will seats, doorcards and carpet from a 2000 Xantia saloon fit a 1999 Estate? (I'm questioning rear seats and doorcards plus carpet in particular)

2) The saloon seats are heated - will my 1999 TS SX have the necessary loom or do I need to take it from the donor vehicle?

Any help much appreciated. I'm against the clock!

Everything except the rear seats will fit, the centre rear belt on saloons is a lap belt rather than the three point one on estates. I believe the dimensions are different as well. The heated seat looms should be there on a S2 although there's little chance of the drivers seat heater working.

Front seats and doorcards and 95% sure carpet yes - rear seats NO. The
rear seat hinging/mounting is the same but the backrest is engaged onto
the rear arch differently between the saloon/estate.

2) The saloon seats are heated - will my 1999 TS SX have the
necessary loom or do I need to take it from the donor vehicle?

No - You'll need the loom from below the centre console or your own wiring
circuit feed.

Hi DG,

I looked into doing this very job a while back and went to the trouble of
measuring everything but was put off by the significant differences in
the rear seat backrest lock mechanism - the lower squab is the same but
the estate backrest is slightly taller and square shouldered compared to
the saloon if that makes sense.

I'll have a look between my saloon and estate and try taking some
pictures - this question always crops up especially now s2 cars with leather
are being broken. I'll report back asap.

I'd say get the seats anyway (unless they're very expensive) and see if
someone here has a set from an estate they're trying to fit a saloon - it
does happen!! Someone in the Activa area (KP?) asked if estate seats
would fit his Activa (a saloon only car) not more than a week ago IIRC...

S2 SX Cars ALREADY have the plug for the heated seats - well, actually, they have the power sockets for the elcectrics at least.. underthe carpets under each front seat..

Thanks Paul. I went out to the car earlier and found an unconnected white connector under the drivers seat - is that it?

I can specifically refute the suggestion that all Series II cars have provision for heated seats, in the form of redundant plugs under the seat.

The powered seat electrical connector clips onto the underseat mount placard even when it has no mating part. Nothing lies on the floor or "under the carpet".

Estate rear carpets differ; they seem to have slightly reshaped the floorpan - rear footwell carpet is Heuliez and a subtly different colour/backing material.

If the seats are the right price, I would consider skinning the rear sedan cushion and having an automotive upholsterer do what they have to, in order to make it work with the estate foam/frame.

jgra1 fittted estate seats into the back of a hatch.... requires some modification to the shell to make it work!

Up to you whether you can tackle the work, and be happy that the seat / belt mounts are stong enough in the event of the worst happening....

For future reference these points really need to be made a sticky as
questions about saloon <> estate are regularly asked on the forum
now as s2's with leather are now being broken and donating interiors
to older cars enthusiast owned being converted.

Key important fact here would be the lower rear seat squab mountings
for the seatbelts on the estate and the width of the mounting bar as
referenced by Jgra1 and the securing bracket for the backrests. I'm sure
John made this work for himself but I just can't see how a slot cut into
the saloon bodyshell with a grinder can help as the estate seat already
has a slot designed into it's backrest where it then mounts onto the looped
"buckle" on the rear wheelarch - totally different to the saloon with it's
pin arrangement:

I'm fairly sure my S2 Activa doesn't have the provisions for heated seats?

I looked under the tray in front of the gearstick and there's only one spare connector down there, that doesn't look like a heated seat connector. If you have two connectors under there it's likely that you have the heated seat provisions.

If your car is wired for electric seats, you should find connectors like this under the seat:



And these under the console (for the heater controls)

In your case, the connector is in use under the seat as your seats have partial electric adjustment.

Look under the oddment tray and see if there are the two yellow plugs present as shown in Mikes pictures above. They are present in my MK1 V6 even though I have no seat heaters. If the plugs are there, they'll be wrapped in foam and therefore not immediately obvious.
