C5 - Why can't I get my newly installed Cruise to work?

Unread post by wurlycorner »

Righto, so the stalk is installed and I now have Lexia working and talking to the car 8-)
No idea what I was doing, but after much wandering around the system I found a way to test that it was picking up the signals from the stalk ok, which it is;
Image

After more wandering, I eventually found somewhere to check whether the car had cruise set to active or not;

Bingo! Not active... Ok now to change that...

:rock:

Exited out of Lexia and shut down, took the car out for a drive...

Nothing.

:grr:

What have I missed? :cry:

Think you need to turn it on in the BSI as well...

I couldn't find anything in there to let me do it? :|

Hmm... Do I maybe switch it on in here and then re-visit the BSI to find it's appeared there? 8-[

Yes, we had to turn it on in the BSI when we installed it in the Berlingo as well as the injection or engine ECU. Three years ago now, but it was definitely two places.

I think you're correct Richard, go though every menu option and scroll down each one and the chances are you find it lurking somewhere.

Ok so I spent some more time on this this evening.
Firstly a #-o moment - although I'd set the engine ECU to have cruise enabled, I'd forgotten to 'write' the new config... #-o
So, got that sorted (still learning with Lexia)
Image
That still didn't sort it though :grr:

So some more screen shots. As I say, it sees and reads the stalk just fine;
Image

Running the diagnosis on the cruise function;
Image
Shows the following;
Image
The injection fault is irrelevant to cruise as far as I can see;
Image
Image

Spent ages looking round the BSI to try and find somewhere that it's not enabled, but drawn a blank;

Have a look at this guide > http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/TechDoc ... trofit.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It has everything you need to know about fitting cruise control to a Mk1 C5

You don't mention if you fitted an additional brake switch or not, not all models require this as later models have a dual function switch. if yours doesn't need it have you checked the brake switch is operating correctly with Lexia live data ?
Not all cars & ECU's require cruise to be activated anywhere other than the BSI, Depends on the model, year & the type of ECU fitted.

Brilliant, didnt know that guide existed.
I had checked the brake signal inputs and noticed that the redundant brake signal input wasn't changing, but didn't know what it meant/that was the one I was looking for.
Looks like mine doesn't have that switch fitted then (even though it is RP number 10xxx).
Back off to the breakers this weekend then ;-)
strange it isn't throwing that up as a fault though - with cruise enabled, it should know to look for the second brake switch input and if it's not receiving it, should flag a fault?

Check your brake switch first, if it is a 2 wire switch you will need the additional red one. I would imagine though if you have a 10xxx RP number then it should have the later dual function 4 wire switch. faulty brake switch ? have you also checked the operation of the clutch switch ?

EDIT: Is this the 01 C5 in your profile ? if so then theres no chance the RP number is 10xxx. the RP number 10000 was built in March 2004.

Series one c5 cruise does NOT HAVE A BSI setting .. you only need to switch it on in the ecu as its the same ecu as xantia hdi ...

I would of also said brake pedal switch had it been manual.. however i believe later s1 cars had the pedal switch fitted. I fitted a cruise stalk to a 54 plate vtr and switch it on on the engine ecu and it worked .. the car already had the clutch switch.

Do the c5 have extra wires in the brake pedal? The ecu monitors the brake pedal switch and works the cruise that way. I dont think theres an extra physical switch..

Early mk1's have a white 2 pin brake switch to operate the brake lights & for the injecton ECU. If they have cruise control the have an additional red 2 pin switch for that. There was an RP change around late 03 - early 04 where the twin brake switch set up changed to a dual function 4 wire switch. If fitting cruise to these models then no additional brake switch is required. If its the earlier type then it needs to have the additional red switch fitted for the cruise to work.

Well...

Ah! Hang on... So 09054 is the RP rather than 10452? :lol:

(What is the 10452 then? KNCB** is the paint code, right? So is 10452 the interior trim, or something?)

Yes the RP number is 09054 the CJ bit is the factory it was made in.
KNC is the paint colour code & the B is the paint finish.
No idea what the 10452 means.

Looks like the common brake switch came in at RP 9611.

If you post up the VIN, we can check if the 2nd switch is fitted.

The other number may be the type approval number?
