Wasn't working, so changed the bulb. Still not working. Next step, - boot open switch - but where is it? Or could it be a fuse... in which case, again, where/which?

The switch is a mercury tilt switch located behind the black plastic trim, look for a white plastic tube with a wire running to it, roughly in the middle.

Hi Phil,
Under the trim panel near the wiper motor. It looks like a little white tube with a curved end and one spade terminal on the other end.
It has a ball bearing inside that makes a contact to earth when the boot is open.
In effect it's a tilt switch.
It can be carefully opened and its ball and contacts cleaned up but it's not often 100% long-lasting...
A stealer should be able to supply a new one...
From my old electronics days I always think it looks a bit like a white OC71 transistor!
