Blower Controller Repair Comments

Applies to air conditioned 405, 406, 605, Xantia, XM, CX Series II with the crescent shaped control module located alongside the blower fan.

In the course of repairing a couple of these, I observed signs of overheating to the spade terminals. Honestly I reckon the printed circuit cannot carry enough current for operation of the fan at a heavy loading.

Solution: I jumped wires to the affected terminal bases. For the terminal near the relay, I drilled a hole through the PCB in a non-tracked location. This allowed me to connect the relay output terminal directly to its relevant spade lug with a decent bit of wire. The other overly hot terminal was jumped to its nearest transistor case mounting screw.

As a result I had to slightly clearance the plastic fan holder at the bases of these terminals.

There was a strong element of
(a.) CBF - due to lack of certainty about its operation, and
(b.) shortage of time!

That’s a perfectly good repair, you should see my plumbing jobs.
I drill boards in coffee machine supplies to pass wires at rectified mains voltage.
I’ve also done it many times in TV supplies without any problem ever.
The screws and nuts can’t be trusted to take the solder easily; they’re always plated with something that needs filing down to proper metal.

Aye; it's been on loan to Christopher Plumber.

Seriously, the blower does fine now. AC kicks in after the self-test, every time.

On a related note, I run my aircon every day and it still blows chilly in Oz weather with the 1999 gas charge in it - never topped off!
