thanks for reply eddie, sorted it yesturday, there is a blue connector with 2 orange wires coming from it that plugs into left hand side comms unit below where the c/c slots in and the wires had been trapped with the lower steering shroud on the metal bracket and was shorting out, i just cut the wire where it had been trapped and soldered it back...

S2 Xantia steering column shroud

The shrouds do go together without removing the wheel. There is a knack. There are two clips, one on each side, roughly above the stalks. You need to make sure the rubber guards (on the stalks) are inside the shrouds before you clip them together. Once done, you can tighten up the securing screws.

I recall when I had the shrouds off mine, they came off easy enough, but I had to bend the tag on steering column at the bottom of the lower shroud in order to get the shroud back over it, then bend it back up afterwards.

Citroen C5 Estate 2002, 2.0HDI 110BP

I have had the above car since nearly new. I bought it in 2003 with 16K on the clock. Now has 190K.

The car has been excellent, apart from the usual pads, new wipers, it has never given me any trouble. Passed its MOT last week with no advisories or issues. I have looked after it, regular servicing...

I agree with the advice to drive it gently and don't allow it to slip, if you can bear to do this the clutch could last many more thousands of miles. The car does have s DMF but you may get away without replacing it. My C5 2.0 Hdi has done around 190k and the clutch and DMF are still good, my 406 it at 215k and also still good.

I've never done an XM but I did quite a few 2.0l CXs back in the day and you could squeeze the gearbox sideways enough to fish the clutch out. About 5 hours all in on them. * With Torx 20 remove the screws on top(in rubber covers, do nto remove just do it trough their holes), then that in left. Under the matts there are other 2 marked with curcle.

I've noticed there is a weep from this sphere and the occasional jet but not too often :(

So queries are....

1. Is this a sign its dead and needs replacing being original its 12yrs old!!!
2. Is there any known issues with the blocks they screw into?
3. Where do you too up the lds and how?

At long last I got the VSX on a lift this afternoon. The dreadful rattle from the front suspension isn't, as I'd feared, a ball joint but the small bush in the radius arm 'eye' (i.e. not the rear 'P' bush).

I've found Simon Mandrake's diagram for alignment of the non-P bush, but I could do with some tips and info on removing, aligning and fitting...

So took my C5 into garage for oil change.

Get phonecall that it needs new tracker rod and rod end and that will be £350 sigh.

Oil change, where I provided the oil cost £91.

Plus they say the tyre is cracking so need a new one (He's recommending a budget tyre, which I am always wary of after wearing out issues before)

I'm working my way through the hydraulics on the HDI exclusive I bought back in December, the rear spheres having been recently replaced, according to the service history.
I've had hydraflush in for about 600 miles now and have replaced all the front 4 spheres, only the rear accumulator and anti sink to go. Need to get the brakes bled PDQ to get...

I've just done the jump procedure but it only jumped at the front and without the engine even starting, from the accumulator I suppose. Off to get the spheres now so we'll see what happens when they're fitted.
Could be the rear accumulator is so flat it can't operate the valve?

I've heard of MAF failure because of the oil from the K&N getting onto it. This is caused by user error, when purchased new they already have the correct amount of oil coating on them, its when the user decides to clean the filter & then over oils it. Hi,
Wanting to put my Xantia back on road after a year SORNed I need to replace rear discs. Dismantling I have snapped the pad bolts so can go no farther as they are req'd to hold both halves of caliper before removing caliper bolts. Are bolts and nuts rather than pins available and does anyone know a part numbers? Thanks.

Thanks Richard, I was considering some threaded bar which I have in some box in garage but I've ordered now. For £7 I'll have new bolts, the covers will reuse if new ones are not suitable. I've had a good years of comfortable motoring and a string of life-dramas with this car that have had nothing to do with Ciroen themselves. This 18 year old car has been amazing to us despite what it's been through. I've been expecting my luck to end... So I've not been on here much :)

Hi guys, I've just changed the front spheres on Fred as she was very bouncy. Also changed the front brake flexible hoses (thanks for the advice). The rear spheres are 2 weeks old.

The suspension is being a bit weird now though, the front was too low and the rear OK and then the rear too high but the front OK. She goes up to service high and down...

Well it's been too hot to be wearing overalls. So took her round the block (so to speak) with the front OK and the rear high, and she settled down! Hurrah! Supposed to get even hotter for a few days so I won't be looking at the hc's for a while. At least I can drive her again!

Now this is going to sound like a wierd question but is it possible in a mk1 C5 to change when the central locking kicks in. My parents car allows the lock to be set BEFORE all the doors are closed. The C5 needs all doors shut before it locks. I find this a pain in the butt as my parents are like glacial zombies getting out the car and I can find...

This is practically spam, but I just wanted to share the good news =)

The Syn-Bus went through its MOT yesterday.... Straight through... No advisories and only a £10 Headlight adjust and delivery fee to pay on top of the mot cost!

my 2007 c5 1.6 hdi vtx+
ok driving around town or up to about 60mph my partner drove it today after 2 minutes on motor way car went into limp mode and eml came on
when she got back hooked it up to lexia and got 3 codes
p0234 turbo electrovalve excesive flow detected

p2408 remote fault permanent fault fuel filler cap sensor signal

pp1490...

How many miles has it done? I suspect the the first one brought the limp mode on - it seems pretty common, and possibly / probably relates to an overboost condition - remedies suggested include changing the sensor, changing the air divert valve (which bypasses the intercooler to get the temp up for DPF regen), stripping and de-coking the turbo...

Xsara fuel pump noise

Hi,

When I turn on the ignition I hear a noise from the rear of the car. I'm assuming it's the fuel pump.
It sounds like a little bump of something engaging, and them a deep humming, for a few seconds.

What I need to know is, should I replace now in order to avoid being stranded at some point, or is this noise normal enough and I can go on for...

mine on my hdi started to be come more audiable over time..it got so noticeable i decided to investigate and took pump out of tank...to find the filter inside the pump housing chocked up with dirt grime and debries...cleaned it all up with brake cleaner put it back in and the pump was almost silent!!...i know thou also that i had put some dirty...

Sounds like a sticking height corrector linkage. I had similar symptoms on the rear suspension of mine until I lubricated the linkage thoroughly, although the height correction isn't as accurate as it should be the symptoms you describe went away.

It's driving me mad and sounds like the drivers chair is creaking ( it's not )

I can't find anything loose on the front offside corner - but it defo coming from that direction

Loud Creak when turning wheel left/right and pulling away from stationery - after that it goes away ?!?

If I jack up the front offside it stops completely ..

Xantia Air Con - blower permanently on

The VSX's (1998) air-con blows cold OK, but even on hottest setting, is stuck permanently on full chat (not a problem on a sunny day) and can't be turned off. None of the controls have the slightest discernable effect eccept the screen/face/feet direction. Is this the well-known sensor-fan problem?

Water getting into the controller is also an issue with leaking window scuttles.

The screen was replaced in 2010, so I hope it was bonded properly.

Last night I sat down and listed the last 8 years MoTs and bills. Since 1/1/2008 (4 years), it's also had new discs and pads all round, HP pump, A/C pump & re-gas, alternator, radiator, battery, O/S...

Engine dog bone mount

Hi All

On my 2004 C5 the top right dog bone mount seems to have excesive side to side and up and down movement and I am not sure how much movement is normal, I can move mine about a centimetre each way. Please let me know if anyone thinks I should replace it and if so where I can get it (aprt from citroen etc) looked on Ebay but cant see new ones...

So had my C5 in March

So far i have done oil and filter change.

Air filter change

Pollen filter change (Old one ws moldy)

Got fuel filter coming tomorrow.

Have checked all fluid levels and they are fine..

So will be my first long drive in her.

Any other suggestions i should check and clean etc?

I have xara Picasso 03 and been told stalk stick for my indicators and lights is faulty because my instrument light panel goes out my lights come on indicators and hazard dont work how much new one and to fit?

The stalk is part of the Comms unit. There are a number of variations; it's important to get one that matches your car's control configuration (eg: foglights, rear wipe/wash etc).

To replace is not simple; the battery must be disconnected a good fifteen minutes before any work is done, then you remove the driver's airbag, then the steering wheel,...

It's failing to rev above 2000, and bellowing out thick black sooty smoke. I know this is due to not enough air in the fuel mix. So far I have blanked off the egr pipe, and disconnected the exhaust but it is still blowing thick smoke and...

The EGR although blanked off (vac pipe?) you need to check it is closed as they can clog up and not shut fully.

Hoping Wheeler might know about this one.

Trying to simplify a motor swap with chip immobiliser.

The donor has something like an ID48 chip in the key. The recipient has an ID46.

Will the recipient's aerial be able to read the ID48 chip and pass the data to the donor Texton box and ECU?

I have read a lot about retro fitting cruise control but am struglling to find if it is easy to fit to a 2003/4 manual 1.8 VTR model. Before I go buying the stalk and switches can someone point me in the right direction to check what bits might allready be fitted to the car, and then maybe if someone lives not too far from rugby with lexia...

Pretty much, or you could post a pic, it says a thousand words. Some early 1.8's did have a cable throttles, I think by 2004 it will probably be motorised though but need to confirm.
