Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Picked up a load of spares recently and there were some spheres included.
Ive pressure tested them and most are the usual hydractive ones between 30 and 45 bar.
So they will get saved and the duds scrapped.
But one of them I dont recognise, this one pumps up to 70bar and then I can pump no further!
Any ideas??

me again the headlights on my c5 work they are bright but i can hardly see when driving at night can they be adjusted they are suposed to be super bright but there more like candles in jam jars lol :oops: :oops:

If the handbrake is working well you probably wont get it more than two clicks?
Unless the caliper is well seized but it usually goes on, just doesnt return and come off.

I replaced the cables on my last C5 but they didnt really need it. Bit of a fiddly job and the guide tubes often need replacing too as the handbrake cables get stick inside...

Not sure if any of you can point out my mistake, fitted a used one of these today (new one is over £600). I have changed 3 or 4 of them before, but this one will not pump the car up.
The origional needed a wack to make it work.I have configured it in almost every option, the car is an exclusive, so is hydractive, with xenons, and no steering angle...

Well guys, the pressure method seemed to do the trick, I used the Mitty Vac on the return pipe to the tank, 5 psi and the noise changed. Still wouldnt come up for ages, but after about 10 turn off of the engine and restart, she came into life, so I am sure the pressure helped, must have been lucky last time. Big thanks :-D

1. What can be done to improve mpg ? have a k&n panel filter, used wynns egr cleaner, swirl valve works, any other things to clean or check? serviced on time ect.

2. Is the blower fan motor easy to remove? is noisy at speed.

3. Do the xexon bulbs loose efficiency over time?

Thanks for replies car is a 2003 as in my Sig.

Drop links changed as have bottom arms, ball joints, rear arm bushes think thats it. Car just does not feel tight at low speeds over poor roads, I have got some front spheres from gsf had them 6 months but not got the courage to change them yet.

The only thing not changed are the inner rack joints...

Not unless you have a mechanical one for parts - in which case you might as well fit it. They use mechanical pumps on a lot of cars, Xantia, ZX, BX and 405 to name but a few.

hi just aquired c5 2.0d vtr 04 plate noticed number plate lights didnt work put a tester on them and there is no live feed checked fuses put new bulbs in still nothing i know theese c5s have their gremlins but was just wondering if anyone out there has had the same problem or could sugest a cure cheerssssssssssssssssss

I'm in the process of trying to get back in to rebuilding the 2.0tct engine I aquired and have it mostly stripped down. Now the thing I'm wondering , can any gaskets or seals etc be gotten as a complete pack from citroen or elsewhere or is it a case of doing up a list and buyign them individually?

Random query here - how long should the glow plug light illuminate for on my 2002 C5 2.2 HDi?

Even when sub zero here lately, it barely even flickers on for a moment, and the car misfires like mad until slightly warmed up. No problems starting, it just runs rough as anything for a few seconds from cold!

Not sure whether to panic here but the C5 has started violently surging at light to medium throttle - feels to me like the torque converter is locking and releasing constantly :cry:

Coming down a hill holding second gear at mid revs I notice fluctuation of about 500rpm - not nice

Hi,
I was suprised yesterday as my Xantia HDI passed it's MOT.
The guy mentioned that the car was spotless and a pleasure to work on. :shock:
The smoke test result was 0.5 however, I had changed the fuel filter and put a few litres of bio diesel in.
Result. :wink: just have to sort out my fuel guage and possibly change the glow plugs.....

C5 dodgy stalks

Hello,
I do believe my column stalks are on their way out. My full beam won't always stay on and I have no wash with my rear wipe. Also, when I push the button for the computer the rear wiper does a single wipe, every time it is pressed.
Are the stalks goosed?

Hi I have a very slow drip,from the pump. Its not coming from the usual places, pipe union or drain bung, Ive checked very carefully!
So Im going to take off pump, I suspect leak is coming from shaft itself! Is there an o ring or seal? what is involved in stripping pump?

Wet floor Drivers side Xantia

After noticing coolant leaking out the joints to elbows leading to Matrix on engine bulkhead side, then wet driver floor immediately Matrix leak.
However though using K-Seal to seal leak that has worked as not leaking from joints any longer but still getting wet driver side carpet.
Ant suggestions on why :?:

That's a shame David :( I've seen one other Xantia leak in that place but on the other side. The only long-term solution is to have the screen out and refitted.

A dead give-away can be milky-white marks on the edge of the screen where moisture has started to delaminate it.

Small knocking noise C5 III Tourer

Hi All, My C5 III tourer (Steel Suspension) has developed a small knocking or clunking noise when I brake or accelerate, which I can feel through the steering wheel and seems to be on the drivers side. It isn't bad or violent more annoying than anything else.
Sadly car is no longer under warranty so I will have to get my hands dirty.
Any ideas ?

C8 rear door lock-handle

Outside rear door handle not working on one door but all others ok.
I had this problem before and garage fixed it but its come back. I took the skin off and after messing by sheer luck got it working....for 2 days.
From what I remember I had to hold up part of the lock mechanism whilst operating the lock and if it didn't flop down it...

Thinking of changing the cambelt on our van and wanted to know how difficult it is on the 1.9 diesel engine. How do you lock the engine and cams. Also think the fuel pump timing may be out as the van seems to kangaroo when you put your foot all the way down on the throttle. have already de-catted and blanked egr and it has made it a little better...

Well, how longs a piece of string? Difficulty depends upon how many other timing belts you have done, if this is your first then it will take some time to get it right. Autodata book time for changing the belt is about 2.5 hours, removing the covers and getting it ready for changing will take the majority of time, the actual changing of the belt...

Agree with you there Jim, the starter motor is your friend.
I've had to undo 4 rather tight pulley bolts with the stater motor method.
Not had problems getting the pulley off the shaft yet, a good sized plastic hammer and a few strikes in the right place and its off.
And even easier if thatfatbloke is replacing it.

Does anybody know if there is a way to disconnect the blue connector which joins the two halves of the Xantia sealed Hydraulic clutch assembly? I'm sure I came across something somewhere about pushing up a plastic ring with screwdrivers, but now I am unable to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I tried bleeding the system again once I had the seal, and this time I think I was successful. I don't want to tempt fate, but I have been driving the car today and everything seems to be fine. Hopefully it will stay that way.

The lack of a FAP filter cant really be spotted if you knock the middle out of the particulate filter, so the mot thing is a red herring in my opinion.

Indeed you are correct however a particulate analyser stuck up the exhaust would tend to give the game away :-( and it is my understanding that the exhaust analisys is going to be a lot more...

I have problems with my Citroen C5 2002 Plate. The speed meter is not working at all, sometimes error message shown Auto Gear Box Fault when i start the engine in the morning and then i have a limp mode between gear 1-2 but once i turn the engine off and start again it comes back to normal. can you please advice with soultions for these problems.

It will be on top of the final drive housing (differential) just above the place where the RH (long) driveshaft enters the gearbox. Sometimes it has a metal heatshield around it, thus obscuring the view of it.

Right, a machanic I know has had a look at the Activa that's for sale in Nottingham. It had a few issues and I wondered what the general feeling was. It has a leaking rear rear Activa ram, an oil leak from under the front (looks like LHM) needs two new front tyres and a good cleaning. Oh, and two new rear spheres.

It's got a bid of £360 on it....

Yes, as Chris says, ram leaks are not the bogey they used to be and are in general straightforward to repair, the rear ram being the easier of the two as no lathe is required!

The rear ram bush is not an issue either...

The front leak would only be a major headache if t were from the Power Steering supply pipe, the one with the rubber section...

I have a year 2000 Xantia saloon 90Hdi. I bought the car in 2009 with only 37k miles on it. The originally-fitted Michelin tyres were still fitted.

I replaced the tyres in early 2010 for Kleber Dynaxers. I bought the same size as those already on the car - 185/65 x 15 .

These replacements are now looking ready for replacement and I have looked...

Re-inforcing what Addo has said, and from various previous postings on FCF forum, if you get your neighbour's alloy wheels & tyres, make sure you get the wheel studs as well, as they should be different to those fitted to your steel wheels

Xantia hazards switch - connected to indicator stalk or not?

I'm wondering if Cassy is suffering from gunked up indicator stalk contacts or if it is actually the flasher unit.
She seems to be indicating faster than usual some of the time, and not at all now and again.
This happens when the hazard light switch is pressed too, so does it go through the stalk?

Hello folks, i'm new around here. I've got a Citroen Xantia 1.9D and I recently noticed the drivers side footwell carpet was greasy and wet, so I did some investigation by lifting the carpets and found the foam soundproofing is full (literally, if you squeeze it your hand is filled) with oily fluid (which i'm guessing is LHM)

Yeah, I took it out, de greased with Auto Glym engine and machine cleaner, power washed, scrubbed with Auto Glym interior shampoo, powerwashed again (both top side and foam underneath) and I left it to hang from my greenhouse roof to dry for a few days. When I came to refit today I put some paper towels down on the floor and jumped on the carpet...

I am just fitting a new clutch cable to my 2004 berlingo 1.9 d, but the clutch arm doesn't pull far enough back now, so no clutch and stuck on ramps !

The new cable is the same length as the old one and was ordered from the reg number.

Xantia front spheres

Hi, Iam about to replace my front spheres on my series 1 Xantia . My question is: When you change the rear spheres you need to undo them { slightly} while the suspension is on high, then lower and depressurise . Do I need to undo the fronts on high ? same as the rear ,many thanks Teryy .

Basically front is well bouncy and back is pretty hard, really hard with passengers. Spheres in both cases gone?

Sooo, a new leak has sprung up from the HP.

It's from this bolt.

Unlike last time, Citroen pulled up the exploded diagrams for steering, brakes, suspension and the pump itself but it did not show an O-ring or even the bolt removed.

Anyone know what this rather large bolt is for and if there is an O-ring seal that can be replaced behind it and...

because if any tinny bits fall out you wont have much chance of finding them,

Can anyone help? Ive got a dodgy starter, about once a week I get nothing but the solenoid click, allways when Im an awkward place, last week Heathrow drop off, or after filling up!
The solenoid is getting its 12v, so must be starter, I have changed many starters in the past, but not a v6.In fact I have never even looked under my car yet.

Do you know I stripped starter, cleaned out solenoid copper plunger with switch cleaner, of course I couldnt get to contacts as I hoped, and do you know its working fine, there used to be a split second delay after the solenoid click and motor turning, I put this down to a high resistance situation! Now its instant.

Hi,

I've just purchased a repossessed Saxo VTR, it's got one key with it but it's a standard key with no remote fob built in. I need a remote key or just fob as it has been de-locked. Is it a case of popping down to Citroen and they'll be able to order one? If so anyone have any idea how much they usually cost?

Some of these (earlier ones) you cannot code the remote locking (this is separate to the chip) , as they have to be ordered correctly to match the receiver. Its the same for 106's and 405's too.

Guys - need a bit of advice here.

My 90k 99T plate TD Xantia has a stiff clutch pedal. I am paranoid about the plastic clip breaking. I checked it the other day and I notice its a white clip and judging by the scratches all around the area - its been replaced. In addition the gearbox has no synchro on 3rd so I currently double declutch in & out...

If you go for the HDI box make sure you get a HDI clutch and you need to keep the clutch fork from your old box.

NO not at all... if you get a HDi (90) box, its NO different to the TD box on the outside!! In fact it IS a TD box.. That is a HDI 90... not a 110.

I know the HDi 90 uses a push clutch, but as the box is a XUD TD box the bracket for...

Morning all!
Just a quicky! Nosing through a seller on ebay who has some bits I could do with for the Beast not to distant, found front discs for a 2L 16v Or 2L Turbo, 283mm, now, if I rememeber properly, the Td estate (S2) has 283mm discs, so would these fit?? Or are the petrol lump discs a different offset??
Ould save a second lot of pstage...

I know that last line Mk.1 Xantias on the R plate just before the change over.. The TD xantias used the Older smaller PADS but with the LARGER diamiter disks!! The fitted a deeper caliper carrier frame to take the larger disk! But same standard TD pads.

I made this mistake when a customer had an R reg (Now owned by a fellow fourm member)..

You need to match the colour of what you have in the system already. There are blue, green and orange coolants around and they are not cross compatible. If you are doing a complete change go for a long life coolant with a 50/50 mix.
