Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Xantia non-hydractive.

I'm getting a rattling from the front axle on the Xantia that experience suggests is the anti roll bar links but I've tested these by 'feel', car parked, having someone rock the car and couldn't detect any movement at all.

Xantia ABS Block Bleeding

Hi Guys,

I'm about to replace 2 hydraulic pipes that are coming out of the ABS block on an S2 Xantia and on another S2 Xantia I'm about to replace the entire ABS block.

Does this block need to be bled to remove any air in any specific way or is bleeding the brakes enough to suffice?

There's a simple way to know the condition of central Hydractive spheres? The bounce test on the corners is the suitable for themselves, but how to distinguish which of the three sphere per axle (hydractiva) is not in good shape.

A flat sphere will have some effect on tick rate as the sphere membrane will no longer have the ability to flex, how much effect a flat Hydractive sphere will have on the tick rate I couldn't tell you....

Hi this another problem with my Series 2 Xantia HDI when I put the heater control to demist a light flashes in the temrature gauge and a stop warning lights, the temprature is normal and the radiator fans are running what could be the problem,

I had your symptoms and could get the light to flash to order by turning on Aircon, then counting to ten, the light then flashed, turn off Aircon and count to 7 flashing stopped. Back trying to find my wife a car and now looking to a Xsara. This would be a good choice for me as I would then only have HDI engines to work on so making life a bit easier. The bloody thing hasn't been happy about starting these past couple of days and I was wondering if the preheating relay circuit fault could be rectified and if so how? As my current C5 has experienced severe loss of compression on one cylinder, cause still to be diagnosed, and I have no time to investigate at present, I'm looking to replace it.

Anyone know offhand where exactly the reverse switch is located on an 04 2l HDI auto C8? There's no reverse lights when its put in reverse. Stuck the multimetre on the bulb holder and its not getting power when reverse is engaged so I'm guessing the switch. Can get on for €25 delivered so not exactly the biggest gable in the world :-D HAvnt gone...

I'm in Leeds, Car is due it's MOT soon so i think the only way to avoid the dealer prices (which i can't afford at the moment) will be to manually adjust them and modify them so they can't unwind then i can get it through the MOT. Everything went like clockwork, had no need to remove heat shield. I did rear section first, sliding it in front n/s wheel arch. Fiddly bit was starting the union at the steering pump end but that was quickly sorted after 10 mins.

Whilst I have the radio code, is there any reason why I cannot charge the battery on the car? I have seen the performance with C5's and don't want to upset anything else. The car is an auto and has been stood for 3 months, although it has been started regularly to keep the oil circulating.

thanks for that never saw them as the wheel boss hid them you are right keep your finger on it and the trip mileage flashes then go's to zero,so alls good,need to do this as I am going to put the car on LPG and the only way you can keep track of the LPG is to find out how far you can go on a full tank and then reset your trip when you fill...

Hi all, need some help here. My xantia 1900TD estate has had these problems for a while now but they arnt a real problem except now the MOT rules in N Ireland are changing and it could see le bus off the road.

noticed lately the Xant's been sinking over night up front, have a suspision as it got worse after the mot, - had cv boot done by the garage, so having a poke and a [prod around as he said ive an engine oil leak which is odd as the engines dry on the sump area (thoroughly cleaned it up back in the late summer) bit wet around the back...

It can only really be one of three things. What does it smell like?

1. Steam - caused by head gasket (or head) failure. Won't smell that much
2. Unburnt diesel - loss of compression or timing failure - smells of unburnt diesel!
3. Unburnt engine oil - failure of exhaust side turbo seal - smell of unburnt engine oil!

My mates has a 96 xantia est 1.9D. and doesn't use a pc. His drivers door has locked, and the key is just turning in the lock. He forced the key with some pliers and felt something break in the lock, and he can now not get into it. The passenger door lock, the key just spins in the lock. my locks are just a knackard, ive found being very gentle does the trick when the same happened to me, try your spare key if you have one as it will be less worn, then get on ebay and direct message some one breaking a xantia ask them about lock barrels and you will get some cheap (it what i did) they are easy to change just take door panel off...

Our Y reg Synergie had a new key with integrated (2 button) fob provided and coded by a Citroen dealer approx 18 months ago as the original was lost.

The fob has recently stopped working and I fear I may have dropped a clanger by taking the battery out of the fob overnight to take with me as a sample for a replacement - hence possibly having lost...

Just a few questions that it's time to ask.

Are the tow bars the same on mk 1 and 2 Xantias?

Are the doors interchangeable for mk 1 and 2's?

At motorway speeds (80+), what sort of mpg could I expect from a 2.0 turbo or V6?

There's a Diesel leak! - it is leaking from one or more of the Diesel injectors but doesn't seem to show up with the engine running. The two injectors nearest the flywheel end are oozing Diesel somehow - possibly from the thin black rubber pipes that arch between the injectors. It's really hard to tell due to the near absolutely vertical...

This lump is in my '98 406.

Its the Bosch As3 semi auto system.

It was purring like a cat on 90/10 WVO (dewatered and filtered to 1 micron) until recently.

Symptons are intermittent knocking/loud engine noise, predominantly at tick over. Intermittent in so much that a small amount of throttle can either produce the symptons or stop it.

Hi, changed my fathers front spheres, on his series 1 Xantia. Horrified to find , while breeding the brakes, the oil coming out is brown in colour and won t mix with lhm. what can it be? I will need to change it all at some point . I hope its not done any lasting damage ! cheers Terry . :evil:

for me it seems to make more sense to listen to the car, she'll tell you when she need attention :)

but the biggest thing isnt the miles a car has done, its the type of miles, i've done a few k of heavy towing with the HDi and as such my clutch is well on its way (195k) the crank pulley really should be done with the cambelt etc

If the engine was siezed the continual current would be at the normal initial current which I'm sure would be well in excess of the cable rating, its unlikely that the cable would fail but all those watts have to go somewhere so if the battery didn't go flat the starter motor would probably catch fire. The cable wouldn't be rated for continual use...

I restarted after the procedure at 80C an hour later with rags stuffed betweek the rads and grilles it was only just over 90C.. in the end I had to give up waitng...

This is a really dumb question I am sure but......
I don't have an owner's manual (anywhere to download / buy one ?) so don't know what the difference is between the thick and thin marks in the centre of the hight adjustment lever (HDI 90SX so not hydractive model).
I had cause to move it today, it is normally on the thick line, and the car rose...
