Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I posted a celebratory picture on Picture of the Day the other day for my 6700th post. I have also posted a fair number since then but today my post count is showing as 6664? That implies some have gone missing! Any ideas? It matters to me as my continual posting record I keep is now out of sync it would appear?? :o :shock:

Another probable explanation for a post count mismatch is that you have replied to a topic where the whole topic has been later deleted, perhaps because the original post was determined to have broken the forum rules. These things are correctly handled...

Has there been a change to the site over the last couple of days, The only way I can log on to FCF is through a VPN to show I am in UK, Never had a problem before and it only seems to be this site.
Also tried to log in via wife's Ipad and still the same

Thanks Mike - that's fixed it for me too.

I commented in the Aussie Frogs sub-forum a couple of days ago that I had lost access using Firefox or Chrome, but could still connect using Edge (so Windows update theory not so plausible). Didn't try a VPN. Anyway, all is well now.

On the subject of search bots, if you make a google (or Bing) search on feu orange you will always find FCF in the first page of results, the post it links to has always been in the top 10 most clicked links into the forum. Go figure...

I wondered if anyone uses the heading banner links to the board index? I frequently find myself back at the board index because I have run the cursor across the banner to the Your Posts button and often inadvertantly activated the link. It took me a fair while to realise what was happening but now I know I wondered if the links are more hassle...

I don't use the touchpad Paul as it has a sticky right button which is why I connected the wireless keyboard and mouse. I prefer the fullsize keyboard too, which is velcro'd over the laptop's keys (not touching any keys) and works very well.. The forum is currently unable to deliver notification emails to some users with gmail accounts.

This is a result of the Google internet outage yesterday, but the ongoing effects are due to Amazon putting the affected addresses into a black list from which they must be manually removed. Amazon has however not actually implemented a usable...

The problem appears to be in the external email delivery service that we currently use.

I have been reconfiguring some of the notification email scripts to get the unsubscribe links working properly, and while doing this the notification system was accidentally broken for a couple of hours.

It should all be OK now, but let me know if you are still not receiving your expected notification emails.

The forum email system has been reconfigured to use a different sending host, and slightly different authentication mechanisms.

This should not have much effect for users, but it may be that our notifications are now less likely to end up in your spam or junk folder.

I will be installing and testing a different web server package on this forum. There are several possible configurations to use, and I intend to test each one for a few days to compare real-world performance.

There should be little difference detectable by normal users, perhaps the forum pages will load a little faster or slower, but there should...

Over the last few days I have not been receiving notification emails when the post is made as I used to. I seem to be getting a whole bunch of emails at the same time for posts made much earlier. eg, 03.20 this morning emails for last nights last 8 posts on the off topic chat lounge. I have installed a new extension on the forum which changes the facility for embedding video links in posts.

The old tags are gone, there are now new tags available, but most of the time you won't need them, as just dropping the url of a video into the post should create the thumbnail.

I have updated the forum style sheets to the latest version.

There should be no changes to the way the forum operates, but there are some minor layout changes:
The layout of the forum header is changed, the grey bars at the side are gone
The header buttons have moved back onto the header image (where they were until a couple of years ago)...

I normally have my FCF page set to 'Active topics' and simply refresh with F5 to see if anything new has appeared.

This evening something new has appeared. A box now pops up informing me that ...the web browser needs to resend the information you've previously submitted and I have to click on Retry to continue.

An extra step I could do without.

Brexit came early. The site was off-line for about 3 hours earlier today.

The VPS that this server runs on simply turned itself off. There is no indication in the logs of anything remotely unusual happening, but switching it back on seems to have fixed the issue.

I had the forum off-line for about half an hour to attempt to fix a couple of issues that cropped up following last weeks software upgrade. I am not sure yet whther the issues are fixed, but it should be no worse...

There will be more software updates in a few days, but I want to sort the current issues first.

The forum is due for a software update on several components, including the PHP engine, the forum core software and several forum extensions. I have been doing preparatory work on this for a few weeks, and I think that all of the packages are ready.
I intend to start on this this week, which will require the forum to be offline for several hours...

I identified what appears to be a small syntax error in the forum software which appears to have been upsetting the Google search bot. I have (temporarily) applied a patch to see if it makes any difference.

If I have done it correctly, there will be no difference in behaviour for normal users, but I thought that I should warn you just in case......

The bug was in the JavaScript that tells browsers to open external links in a new window, so potentially affected all links in posts.

All real browsers seemed to have correctly ignored the bug, but the Google search bot threw an error, but only on 400 odd pages.

As at 10.15pm UK time, when I use 'quote' function, all I get in the text box is (example):

No text is present in the text box to edit.

Edit - Also getting the 'debug' script at the top of the page as per previous issue.

Second edit - quote function working in some posts and not others. Debug info visible in some, not...

It turned out that there was an issue in the forum extension that makes attachments visible when quoted, but it only affected quoted posts where the attachment was added with an existing quotation (and perhaps some other cases).

Restrictions for users with @outlook.com and @hotmail.com addresses - RESOLVED

We cannot currently deliver notification or registration emails to users with @outlook.com an @hotmail.com email addresses.

This is due to Microsoft having designated our server as being a junk mail source, apparently because some users have been moving our notification emails to their 'junk' folders.

There appears to be nothing that we can do...

On Thursday morning the forum will be offline for an hour or so while I attempt to install an improved email unsubscription system as part of the work to get emails flowing to Hotmail, Outlook and other Microsoft mail systems.

Not sure of the exact timing, but I intend to have it done by 9:30 am UK time.

I have been advised that our hosting company will be taking our server off-line to replace the CPU cooler and some SSD drives. The shut-down should start about 10:45 and last about 90 minutes.

I need to perform a database engine upgrade on the server. I will do this one morning this week, probably Tuesday.
I am not sure how long the process will take, but it should not be more than an hour or two.

Due some issues which I have just been made aware of, I will postpone this upgrade for a couple of weeks!

I am trialling some minor changes to the forum layout.

Today's change should only affect the layout of the forum header bar. The buttons have moved back inside the image (where they were until I moved them outside of the image last year).

You may need to clear your browser cache (ctrl-f5 on a PC) to actually see any change.

Despite repeated attempts, I was unable to recover the posts made today and it has been necessary to revert to the backup made early on the morning of 26/05/2019.

Our hosting provider is installing some security updates, and will be taking our server off-line for a short period some time on Tuesday.

They are not giving a scheduled time, so it will happen when it happens...

This site should restart itself cleanly after the reboot.

With the update today to phpBB 3.2.7, support for remotely hosted avatars has been dropped. This is apparently due to a security issue (I am not responsible).

Users now have a choice of:
A locally uploaded avatar
A remote avatar hosted on Gravatar
No avatar.

The forum was unexpectedly off-line for about 90 minutes today.

The logs show that the server was manually shut-down, but it was not by any of our admins. I am seeking more information from the hosting company.
