Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Yes it has a fan, but it's not easy to get at. If you listen by its intake slots you will hear it running. If you can hear it it's working so best left alone. All it needs is a blast of aerosol air duster down the slot periodically to blow the dust off the temp sensor.

check that theres no corrosion on the relays or their connectors located in between the two fans under the plastic cover.if thats ok it's more than likely a faulty fan motor.
as for changing the fan motors,if you use one of these spanners you can change the motors without removing the bumper or the radiator/condensor/intercooler assembly,just...

Having read all the relevant posts, anyone got any thoughts on the following problem
Xantia 1.9td VSX 1997, Air con works fine when engine cold, engine hot ,no chance, or very intermittent.
As you look at the front of the car no matter how hot the engine gets the RH fan never runs, the LH fan cuts in at full speed when the temp gets to about 90...

George, are you saying the fan does not change speed even when the control is moved from auto to full speed?
This should happen regardless of whether the A/C is 'switched' on. R

My 1.9 turboD Xantia has had a noisy aircon pulley for years. It really whines when the clutch is not engaged. Switch the aircon on, the clutch engages and the noise goes away.

A properly sorted air/con on a BX hardly affects the consumption on a trip; it does a bit around Town.
I had a 16Trs that did 7.2L/100klms without a/c and 7.3 with it on over the same 250 klms drive on two consecutive days.

God knows what the answer is - but the correct belt is a 6PK1736 for the 2.1. Your best bet would be to take the belt off and thread a piece of string round in place of the belt, then measure it.

Excellent idea for a new forum, esp. as this item is increasingly common and not easy for the DIYer.
Can anyone tell me what length belt (and perhaps even the GSF part no.?) I would need in order to bypass the aircon on a 2.1TD Xantia? This will buy me some time until I can source a replacement compressor.

Great idea! Aircon is largely a mystery (especially to garages!) and takes a fair bit of understanding. This is a good way of broadening the knowledge base.

Alec I think someone on one of the other threads mentioned that if the later air cons are switched to screen then the aircon automatically comes on to speed things up, however that does not explain it coming on when set on face...... Are both fans running in front of the Rad?

I seem to have a problem with my aircon working even if it's switched off and not on auto. If the blower is on face or windscreen I can hear the fans come on . If I turn them off the fans on the rad stop. Also if on cold it gets very cold so it definatley is on.Any ideas?
