Changing Smeg+ unit

Post by Ghostgeezer »

Hi All
I have a smeg+ (B2) unit in my car at present and I have on the desk next to me a Smeg+ (D2) unit which I wish to swap over.
So you have probably already guessed my question...

Can Diagbox be used to change the VIN in the new unit? and add the button for navigation on the screen?
I have seen lots of yes answers and lots of no's.
My car is a 15 plate C4 GP (b78). I have Diagbox on a couple of different laptops. V9.xx works fine but obviously does NO telecoding.
Diagbox 7.57 doesn't want me to change the VIN either. I have seen some discussions on telling DB you are connecting to a pug 208! Not sure how to do that.
SQLite doesnt change the VIN, you can only edit your calibration. All the arduino routes are for NAC/NCC, not smeg+.

Why don't I just take it to a Citroen dealer? The 2 I have inquired with don't want to know. They wont touch it.

Thanks
Peter
Peter

Dealers won't touch it as a) it's not a unit supplied new by them and b) it's not the unit that was supplied with the vehicle (from the VIN) so is a different unit. They won't deal with it because they can only configure the ECU in internet connected mode to their servers and it will reject the unit as it was not supplied with the vehicle most likely - that and of course the liability of attempting it and causing issues with the vehicle / vehicle systems.

You are going to have the same issue with Diagbox 9.** trying to telecode it yourself.
There are other configuration parameters apart form the VIN that will need to be configured as the unit is different and has different functionality (display, instrument panel and some others I can't remember now), so not just a matter of the VIN - but same issue with telecoding.

Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Please tell me there's some good news! PLEASE!

Is there a way with 7.57 or 7.62? Somehow 'trick' it into thinking its another model? (God knows how!!)
I have tried 'repair' in the smeg unit and that just tells you it wants to chat with its friends at Citroen.
I haven't tried the BSI route yet as that's always a little worrying! I presume that will do the same.

I can telecode the configuration through SQLite, but the VIN is encrypted and so cant be changed.

Your vehicle is on the cusp of change over from V7 compatibility to DB 9. Later versions of DB 7 (V7.62 on) started to remove manual telecoding more and more - so hard to say whether your specific equipment is too new for a later version of DB7 and if it is whether it will allow configuration

There was a correction on V7.49 (July 2014) to do with manual configuration of SMEG Plus on the C4 Picasso, and again on V7.58 for the same (November 2014) so maybe trying V7.58 might yield results. But again this may relate to the original C4 Picasso (which ran until about 2013) and the new C4 Picasso from 2013!

Thank you Marc, I'll give 7.58 a whirl and hope for the best.
If all else fails, I will have to wipe the VIN completely from the eeprom in the Smeg+ (virginize) and allow the car to write it. But that's a faff.

Thanks Again
Peter
