Activating Risk Area feture late 2014 Grand Picasso

Post by onthecut »

I am hoping someone can put me straight on the 'Risk Area' function on my recently acquired Picasso (ate 2014). The feature is present on the sub menu system. I can toggle the 'show speed limit' box, but the tick only comes up in dark blue and nothing else appears to function at all. I have read that the feature was not necessarily activated on all cars and if it's not, then it has to be activated by Citroen.

Is that correct, or is the activation function to be found in a clone Lexia, or a 'cheat' menu buried in the system ? Once working, are third party updates available, or is it Citroen only ?

Thanks, Mike.

No forget all that internet nonsense.

The Risk areas are 'danger' areas / zones like speed cameras / speed traps and high risk areas. How and whether it is available will depend on the telematics system you have in your vehicle, so I will need your VIN to determine what system you have first of all.

Regardless of the system, Speed camera alerts are chargeable - period.

So if you have an RT6 system for example, then these can be purchased either from Citroen's Navigation website as a monthly or annual download, or in some cases from another supplier like SCDB which can be cheaper. The files are downloaded to a USB, and when inserted the system should detect and offer to update the database for you.

As for activation of the system, there are no hidden settings or trickery. It will be in your map settings and options or POI (Places Of Interest) that you can choose to have these displayed or not. Bear in mind that the database will remain in use (if you have the options switched on in the settings) until it is overwritten with a later version.

Also be aware that for some countries (you haven't specified a location or country in your profile) like France, the speed camera locations are illegal, so they instead show the 'Risk Area' without the location.

Hi Marc.

Many thanks for that. I'm in the sunny West Mids, so a UK spec car. VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Ok, so you have the SMEG system installed. SCDB don't supply Speed Camera alerts for this system, but they are available on the official Citroen Navigation website here - just put your complete VIN in (it's an 'H' by the way), along with map updates:

Have you had any trouble with Waze or Google maps?
Mine went completely haywire a couple of weeks ago.
Seem to be OK again now.

Never had a problem....Google Maps is better for SatNav (some say) as WAZE can be a little "back road keen".... I just pay a little more attention adding in a waypoint if I need to to "force" a better plan.

I have found Waze to be a bit more accurate though. Google couldn't find my granddaughters house in Northallerton, Waze led us to the doorstep.

None of them can find my son's house some place in Essex, I can never remember the name of the town.

TBH that is quite important :)

Cannot find the Post Code ? I think you can add it to Fav Places when you get there next time....it uses the map point I think

What Three Words is about the only option.
Satnavs guide us into a cul-de-sac that backs on to his street, his house is (just) visible but inaccessible.
We drive down the main drag and he stands outside and waves us in.
Telling it to remember the co-ordinates would be a sensible option though. Had to do that for an opticians.
But he is selling it and will probably have moved before I travel down there again.
