09 Citroen C5 Aux Belt routing and tensioner advice?

Post by chunky2778 »

Hi all can anyone confirm this is the correct routing for the aux belt please and also that the tensioner is in the right place?

I bought it recently, tensioner body was worn and belt running wonky, replaced belt and tensioner and there's a keyway in back of tensioner that fits into block.

However there's still a vibration on start up and the tensioner looks like it's moving too much, I'd also say the tensioner looks too close to the pulley, does it look right please?

Looks right, if the tensioner was fitted wrong i would expect the belt would have been either impossible to get on or flapping about.

Thanks Wheeler, I fitted it all the same way it came off, drew a diagram etc before replacing, replaced it with an FAI tensioner which normally is a reasonable manufacturer?

Just seems weird how it's tensioned so close to the crank pulley, I'd expected it to look something like this.....

When my belt and tensioner were vibrating it turned out to be the clutch pulley on the alternator.
The new pulley was about £25 (but the tool to fit it was the same).

Thanks Lenny, I logged back in to say I double checked the tensioner today and it's in the right place, when I spin the alternator the clutch is seized, you beat me to it :-D

I think I've found a tool for around £7 on eBay but do you have to take the alternator out or do it in place?

Mine (2.0 HDi 160) was alternator off as there was no room to even get the tool in to try.

It wasn't a bad job though.

(It would've probably been an easy-ish couple of hours if I hadn't lost the strange expanding nut thing for one of the main bolts and had to visit the local scrappy the next day to get another  )
