207cc Noisy Roof

Post by Colin2206 »

Second attempt to get this posted.

We are starting to use my wife's 207cc more in the good weather. I have noticed that when driving with the roof up, the roof is noisy, a lot of creaking and groaning. It always had noise but it is now louder and "harder". I've visually checked hydraulics and linkages and sprayed silicone on all the rubber seals and WD40 on everything else. No difference. It raises and lowers ok, smoothly and cleanly with a positive lock. No obvious wear marks anywhere.

So is the increase noisy a sign of something going wrong or just an indication of the car's age?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Regards,
Colin.

There are several technical bulletins Peugeot have issued concerning noises with the 207 Coupe. So I suggest you might give the dealer a visit:

TSB (C5lW0EQ0) which concerns "Rattling noises vibrations on the right of the roof. Vehicle in coupe position on a poor road surface or when driving over a threshold"

and the other:

TSB (C5IW0FQ0) "Noises or rattling noises in the rear area of the roof. Vehicle in coupe position: when driving or on a bad road surface"

The first involves attaching some shrink tubing to the centring pin on the roof and the latter TSB involves installation of 2 washers under the centring pin.

The work may not be chargeable, so worth giving them a ring, describe the noises and see if they will cover it for you - just quote the 2 references I gave above that addresses the issues (note these are the letter "i" after the 'C5' in the references and not the digit '1').

I too have been investigating several noises in my 207CC (2007 1.6VTi).
One was from the central rectangular pin between the two roof sections. When the car body was under torsion and the engine running in gear while the car was stationery, I could feel and hear a rattling noise coming from the join between the two panels. I removed the ceiling and C-pillar lining (some plastic retainers are sacrificial!) and it wasn't obvious that there was much free play in the rectangular plastic-coated tongue where it fitted into the recess in the forward housing. I used a G-clamp to get the fitting really tight then tightened the bolts. When I drove it next it seemed fine, but when I emerged from my coffee session and drove home there were creaks and sharp noises coming from the RHS lever area against the C-pillar. The car had been sitting in Spring sunshine for several hours. I subsequently undid the bolts and let it relax before retightening. So far so good, but it is early days. I had a good look at the plastic covering the pin and did not see any obvious signs of wear. I did lubricate as much of the roof mechanism as I could, using engine oil and lithium spray grease, and sprayed silicone onto the central plastic tongue.
The other noise appears to be coming from the boot. It is fainter and quite subtle. On another forum another 207CC owner described it as "It seems to make my ears feel like I'm in an aeroplane or a drum. It's driving me mad.." I sympathise with them! I have checked the muffler heat shield and all the fittings are in place, although on the rear corner it is not secured and quite flimsy. I think this noise may beat me. I tried searching for the TSBs you mentioned but failed to find anything available on the net.

You won't find TSBs generally available, as they are limited to dealers or paying subscribers only which can be prohibitively expensive for the casual DIYer. I just happened to have this one, but just put the references up in case anyone wanted to contact their dealer and see what the cost would be, if any to apply them.

I'm translating the information from German at present and then I'll put the contents of both the Technical documents into the Member's Resources section for you to view - in case you have no joy via the dealer and want to do the job yourself.

It'll take me a an hour or so as I'm having to manually transcribe the information from paper and translate it as I go and sort the images too.
