C5 x7 v6 TTD Engine overheating

You have hit the nail on the head ! Even though I can only see the bottom mounting screw on mine , your photo looks like the same thing if it has two hoses connected ? I assume you have to remove the EGR to get at it ?
My V6 3.0 L TTD is now 11 YEARS old and it looks like a common failure . Does this have an O ring around the spigot or is it sealed with a compound ?

Yep two hoses one slightly larger than the other. No need to remove the EGR, the common approach (on a C6) is to go in from the bottom! To do that you'll need to remove the aircon compressor (left hanging rather than completely removed) and the alternator. To be honest, I struggled to get to the hose clips and the one bolt that holds it in! In the end I went in from the top but that entails moving the rad, condenser and a few coolant pipes! It's a pig of a job to get to the hose clips from any angle and perseverance is called for!

The spigot does have an O-ring and no compound is needed.

I will give it a go from the bottom . Looking at your photo , the seal appeared to be broken , looks like it is on the end face ! I do wonder the life of an O ring against the hot engine block , would have to be a heat resistant type ????

Hayden,
the seal is an O-ring sitting in a groove in the plastic. It's the outer end of the plastic that's worn away, well half of it.
It'll be interesting to see what yours is like but my working theory is that contaminates in the coolant act like an abrasive and wear the plastic away.

The EGR exchanger is not leaking . It is the black housing behind the EGR at the front of the block as shown in the photos that I put on and also the one that MGmike added . What is the correct name for this housing as I do not have a manual ?
Some info on how to remove the front EGR would really help if you think this is the best way to get to the leak .

You have to appreciate unlike both of you, I don't have this V6 engine - so they are obviously completely different in components and layout from a 4 cylinder and it is difficult to make out the components from close-up pictures of individual parts. It's also worth mentioning that the V6 2.7 and V6 3.0 engines have different EGR setups.

MGmike has found the leaking housing ,below N0 2 on cooling system pipes drg., thanks Mike ! Marc !, I looked at the EGR removal you sent and there must be an easier way to get the leaking cooling block / housing out ?????
Mike suggests slackening the air con compressor but then he had more problems getting the hose clamps off , someone must know of an easier way to remove housing which has a spigot into the BLOCK ??

I should be pulling my hair out over this problem , but I don't have any left !
Is there anyone in the forum who owns the same car ????? This leak sounds like a common problem but the solution to fix is horrible if you have never done it before .
MGmike has given me description of how it is done on a C6 but he still had to change his approach to getting access to the leaking black plastic fitting mounted in the front of the block directly behind the EGR housing .
In short , has anyone done this repair an EASY WAY . My Citroen has been sitting around now for weeks .

I think the problem is that no-one here has personal experience of working on the components in question.

I can only give very generic advice, like removing the engine mout to allow the engine to be pushed back a little to create more working space, or consider removing the nose of the vehicle and move the radiators out of the way.

So far the suggestions have all seemed too difficult . I do know that the V6 3.0HDi is virtually the same engine as LANDROVER use in their Discovery around 2006 . This was originally made by FORD !
Maybe my local Landrover dealer can help as I do not have a local Citroen dealer , nearest is about 180 klms away .

Ok, so I think I have found the culprit, item 4 if this is the part under item (2) of my previous diagram. It is called the Engine water intake tank.

It is part number: 1336Y2, £79.19 from Citroen inc. VAT.

Unfortunately I don't have details on replacing it, however there is a post on C6 Owners where a member had a leak - but ignore the diagram on the first post, as it is not shown.
