If you have Diagbox / Lexia, you should be able to check the A/C pressure and see if the fans cut in / out as per the pressures in the table.

I not have a Lexia or other ways to check that.
I think its time for a garage visit. Yikes.

I will check that the new relay specs match the old relay. ( The numbers/values that's moulded on their outers).
But nowt else I can do repair wise.

With this engine, (EW10A) the fan motor is 'chopper controlled' so speed is staged and managed by the engine ECU. So when the water temperature sensor reaches 97 ℃ the fan operates at slow speed. Between 97 ℃ and 105 ℃ the engine ECU uses the chopper control on a staged basis. When the temperature reaches 105 ℃ it tells the fan to operate at max. speed.

So in addition to the above, you then factor in the A/C - which operates the fan based on the pressure in the A/C circuit as I mentioned previously.

So as long as you are not getting any high temperature warnings, no overheating, and the A/C is working, I wouldn't panic. Just keep an eye on things. Let the engine idle on a hot day and and see if the fan kicks in at all - but it should do - especially on a hot day with the A/C on.

But if you get an engine coolant temperature sensor fault - it will lead to the following actions:
  • Operation of the cooling fan at fast speed
  • Switching off of the air conditioning compressor
  • Display of the warning lamp STOP and of the engine coolant temperature warning lamp on the instrument panel (*)
  • A message is displayed on the multifunction screen

Hi. What you write on the a/c.

I should have wrote first, that the blower does work for the hot air only, drawing off the radiator.
I run the a/c to lower the coolant temp.
Terrible in summer!

And when I turn it off, I can feel warm air still coming out of vents.

But there is no cool air from the a/c.

So are you saying you have no A/C?

With the engine running, get somebody to assist and turn off the AUTO on your climate, by pressing the A/C button which should switch off the A/C - check the climate panel. Then whilst watching the A/C compressor, get the other person to put the temperature at the lowest setting and press AUTO. That should kick the A/C in.

If the compressor does not start engaging, then you have either low pressure in the A/C circuit which may need a recharge of gas, or there is a fault with the compressor / clutch. The A/C compressor is disabled if the gas is too low to prevent damage.

So you may of had a leak - or if the A/C has not been used at least a few times per month, then the oil won't lubricate the seals in the A/C circuit and this can lead to leaks. Another favourite place is the condenser - stone chips like these a lot!

So I would consider getting it tested, where they can see if the system is holding pressure or not first of all. If it is, then hopefully it just needs a recharge.

Thanks for the reply. This will narrow down what the garage can work on.

Easier than electric testing!

Will say this when i visit, they do an a/c recharge also.

I just had one of our vehicles done by Paul of Cool-carz.co.uk in West Wales which is a mobile service. Did a fantastic job.

System was checked for leaks - pressure tested - all clear, so then drained, vacuumed out the system, then it was cleaned and recharged plus given an anti Bacterial treatment. All for £70 - and that was done at our home.

They also have a mobile service in the Bedford area.

ATS did the last one and that was useless....

Hi.
Have just returned from refitting bumper.
Tried a/c and it worked! Cold to hot.
Fan still not rotate, but I idle for only 5 mins.

Between trying a/c, the battery negative was removed. So something has been reset.
Am on a long drive tomorrow, that'll show if the fan will finally work.

Citroen palaver!

Ok, when you disconnect the battery, always follow this guide - or it can lead to ECU issues if time is not allowed for proper sleep and wake up of data networks:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Hi. The reset I did, no change yet.

BUT, I used an obd2 code reader.
Error: P0597. Thermostat control/circuit open.
From what I read so far, no high temp reading,so fan will not turn.

Four years ago I read this code, my manual translates as: cruise control open!
Because of this 'low' fault, i 've never cared to fix it.

Yes, that P0597 is your piloted thermostat control issue. If this is faulty then of course it can affect other systems.

OK. Cruise control, I assumed was just that. Funny, my cc had always worked!

And the coolant sensor, I've unplugged it's connector and reading was still '0597'.

So am sure that means just the sensor itself to be fixed.
I'll change it for new and go from there

The thermostat is inside the outlet coolant tank.

Can I suggest you create a new thread for specific queries as this thread is not really relevant and won't be getting the views..
