Well another update,

Removed blower motor and it is turning fine.

Anybody trying to remove the blower, I suggest to remove the glovebox lid and compartment to aid access and no war wounds. Once you figure out how to remove the 2 plastic hinge, bolts on the lid. I think only took 30 mins remove lid, box and blower refit was quicker as I knew what went where.

Fitted another blower and still the same it only blows at one speed therefore It must be ECU dual climate control which adjusts the voltage to power the blower.

Marc, what is the part no for Dual climate control.

I think I will check the wiring to confirm but will wait until spring to fix.

Thanks Marc,

Even 2nd hand units are £200 but there are a few companys which can repair your unit. Need to look into that.

Well another update,

With the weather up here Sunny,Dry but Coooooooooooooooold. I thought I would change over the climate ecu thinking this is the problem.

No change still runs on 1 setting, so must check the signal wire for continuity but it looks like it's going to be icicles up here for the next week.

Will just wait for the right day.

Hi All,

Looking for somebody to correct me if I am wrong about how the speed is varied on the air blower.

This is done by varying the signal from the switch through the module to air blower.

Looking at the wiring the signal is sent via the signal wire no 2 on the module through the earth no 3 to the blower depending on signal strength determines the speed of the motor.

Sorry guys but don't know how to cut the wiring diagram and paste the appropriate portion to this post.

If any moderator can assist I would be grateful.

All thoughts and replies please

Looking for up to date diagram for the engine compartment fuse box (PSF1). I believe the one I am using is an earlier version

Interesting update, this morning when defrosting C5 I put the A/C ,front and rear demisters on, the blower ran for approx 1-2 seconds full blast then dropped back to a lower setting.

I found an older post re problems with fan running on high speed and Marc posted about 2 fuses in PSF1 fuse 10 and 11 , multifunction motor control and A/C.

What purpose does fuse 10 have ?

In my handbook it lists this as Actuator motor also listed F19,F20,F21 Actuator motors.

Could F10 be my problem and where is it in the wiring diagram.

Kenny

What voltages / continuity have you measured / checked?

My reading of the wiring diagram is that the switching is on the earth side - there doesn't appear to be a fuse for the main fan supply, F11 controls the relay that pulls in the power supply to the fan / controller - if this was kaput you wouldn't get anything. If you've got an analogue volt meter (or even better a scope!) you should be able to measure:

12V on the fan pin 2, once the engine is running - probably red wire
12V on pin 4 at the controller (this is from the same feed as the fan)
Continuity from pin 1 on the fan to pin 3 on the controller (this is the earth side)
Continuity from pin 1 on controller to earth

If you measure the voltage between pins 4 and 3 on the controller this should vary as the fan speed request is changed - higher voltage for higher speed request. A digitial meter may not show this, hence really needing an analogue meter here. Similarly if you measure the voltage between pin 2 and 1 on the controller it should vary as the speed request is changed, again increasing as the speed is increased - this may only be a 5V signal, not a 12V one.

Thanks Richard, that was my interpretation.

Yesterday as I mentioned above I put the A/C using the button on the dual control panel along with front and rear demisters and fan went full power for 1 to 2 seconds then return to the level which it is running at.

I know the fan is working fine after bridging 1 and 3 to earth fan went full speed.

As you it's been pretty cold here and I haven't add the chance to put my digital meter to check along with my continuity test.

Sorry no scope to do an analogue test.

Update,

If you bridge wires 1 & 3 on module control fan runs at full speed therefore supply and earth working correctly

12 v at supply feed to module control

Continuity at pin 1 to earth module control

Continuity to earth pin 3 module control

But when measuring between pin 3 and pin 4 no voltage variation

Likewise
Pin 1 and 2 random voltage variation, not increasing as switch control is turned up form low to high (temp).

My interpretation is the signal wire would appear to be faulty.
Fault code F72FF.png
As per the description given in the above.

Next take the block connector off the climate ecu and test for continuity.

Hopefully this will identify the wire as faulty.

Okay,

I have bridged wire live feed No 4 and signal wire no 2 with ignition off and 12v was shown on multimeter.

Started engine and it dropped to 7.2 v and I moved the fan speed dial and it stayed the same. This should vary with speed.

All the fault codes have open circuit to earth which would affect this but where is this open circuit.

I haven't taken the blower wiring off to check the signal through the earth, and varying the voltage with the fan speed as yet just need to prepare myself for it.

Any thoughts

What affect would a faulty A/C compressor have on the system ?

My A/C does not activated when pressing button on Dual climate control.

Rattling noise in the area of compressor, spring-loaded bearing replaced only very minor improvement in the noise.

Can it be the compressor as per EDCD investigation in this link viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66105&p=654180#p654180

Hard to say Kenny, but sounds similar from what you have said.

I had my compressor replaced after it failed - shortly after a lot of investigation and half a dozen refills for a leak, which they finally found was a small nick in the condenser to be the culprit. But I suspect all the refills and damage done, loss of oil and the rest of it took its toll on the compressor. Once the new one was fitted, it was like an igloo inside 8-)
