2000 S2 xantia activa, electric mirror problem

Post by djadams »

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help. My 2000 Activa is suffering from a lack of mirror control. From the switch on the driver's door I can move both mirrors inwards and outwards, but not up and down. That wouldn't be a problem as I adjusted the mirrors in 2012 and haven't grown since. Unfortunately, as the passenger side indexes in reverse, and that still works... it has slowly drifted down and now permanently points at the ground, just pointing slightly more at the ground in reverse...

My swapagnostics already had me buy a second-hand switch. I plugged that in and the behaviour is the same. That leads me to the elusive "mirror control module". I'll try and get one of those from a breaker next... Does anyone happen to have a photo of it in situ that I could share with a breaker so they can locate it (and so I can find it!). Or could someone direct me to it so I can take a picture!

Many thanks for your help all, Dan

Dan, no photo but it's located in the driver's door and is near the interior handle as I recall... It's a plastic box about 2 x 2 x 1 inches. It's the only one in there and hard to miss...

It may not be that... S2 Xantias are terrible for breaking wires in the rubber concertinas between the doors and the bodyshell.

One broken wire can cause quite bizarre behaviour...

Thank you Jim! Top info as always.
I'll pull the door apart and see if I can do some continuity checks from there...

Can't you just manually adjust the mirror? Doesn't seem to do any harm...

Re. Jim's comment about wires breaking, I have a SII Xantia Estate which has a problem with both front windows - they will only wind up or down if the driver's door is open. Doesn't worry me much, as it has aircon, a sunroof, and working electric rear windows, but it's a bit embarrassing if I get breathalyzed (or indeed have any interaction with officers of the law) and can't wind my window down .

I could push them up and down manually, yes, but I'd rather they worked! :)

In the unlikely event anyone else comes here trying to find the mirror module (I was just reading a long thread about the fact no one else has a xantia any more...), on my 2000MY UK car it is in the left hand (passenger) door, here:

The markings on it are nice and clear in this one:

The right hand door has the same connector bracket but no module on top of it.

I suspect that Jim is right about a broken wire or two, but if I can get a second-hand module I'll try swapagnostics first! :D
