C5 x7 P0238 error code

Post by KennyW »

Afternoon All,

I've had this error code appear a couple to times.

No adverse effects whilst driving, but annoying.

Checked fault with Diagbox

Manifold inlet sensor

Intermittent fault
High pressure

Short circuit to +ve.

I suspect the wiring but where

Any ideas ?

Kenny

It's a combined temperature and pressure sensor Kenny. Here are the electrical characteristics, but it may be the actual sensor of course as there is a diaphragm inside that is used to sense the pressure and increase the electrical charge accordingly. The incoming air is split and channelled to both the air pressure sensor and to the NTC sensor for the temperature.

It's not uncommon for these diaphragms to wear, but the pressure range is between 300 to 3000 Mbar.
DesignationValueUnit
Supply voltage5 ± 0.25V
Pressure measured by the inlet air temperature and pressure sensorBetween 300 and 3000Mbar
Impedance between channels 3 and 4 (Connector disconnected, negative terminal of the ohmmeter on channel 4 )15 or belowkohms
Impedance between channels 2 and 4 (Connector disconnected, negative terminal of the ohmmeter on channel 4 )15 or belowkohms
Supply power15 maximummA
Here's the fault descriptor:
Fault Code: P0238

Description of Fault: Manifold entry pressure sensor: Short-circuit to positive, pressure too high. Voltage higher than 4.8 V during 4 acquisitions.

Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
  • Deactivation of the EGR function
  • Cutting of the exhaust heat saver function
  • Deactivation of the kick-down for automatic gearboxes
  • Limitation of performance
  • Request for emergency closing of the turbo air cooler by-pass unit
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Deactivation of the tight spot for the cruise control
Warning Light: Warning lamp MIL

Symptoms: Engine hesitating, cutting out, Lack of power, Noise.

Suspect Areas:Turbocharging pressure sensor, Electrical harness, Connectors

Thanks for the reply Marc,

Changed the sensor earlier this year or last year which had similar or the same problem (still have it).

I'm going to check the wiring and connectors clean same.

Will see what happens.

Here's my problem from earlier this year.

Are they related ?

You know I thought I had put some info up on this issue, now I know where!

When you changed the part, did you replace it with a half decent brand and not one from ECP? Just asking as their sensors are usually dead on arrival.

The part (1920QR) is actually £58.79 inclusive from Citroen so bear that in mind once you add shipping costs from another supplier which can be around £8-9.

Some decent brands:
Febi Bilstein
Delphi
Denso

Here's hoping it is the sensor then!

It may take a drive for the engine ECU to adapt to the new values it receives, so bear that in mind. Clear the fault code again and see if that rectifies it.

This may have been the source of my other codes I had.
We'll see when this sensor is fitted.
