x7 battery question

Post by Bandit12 »

Hi Guys hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Unsurprisingly I've not driven my car in the past month. In order to keep the battery healthy can I hook it up to an optimate while keeping it connected to the car? Would like to avoid disconnecting the battery and going through the BSI reset if I can avoid it. I've used optimates on various cars and motorbikes in the past with no issues but my car is a citroen so who knows what madness I might unleash :rofl2:

You can connect any 12v source to it providing you do it THE RIGHT WAY round, otherwise.

There are lots of models of these - but by all accounts they say that the higher voltage charging function is disabled if it senses vehicle wiring. If you have one of those that charges via the cigarette / accessories socket, I would forget that though, as the BSI cuts off power to it after a period of time.

I took mine off last month and gave it a good maintenance charge. I'll do the same again in a few weeks. I also disable the volumetric protection whilst the car is not in use by holding the alarm button in for a few seconds (right hand dash side 3-button cluster) until lit before locking the car. I don't need that protection where my car is and it saves power by disabling the internal movement sensors.

I have a Smart charger, but I prefer to charge off the vehicle - and in any case, a reset is good every now and then.

I've charged my C5 X7 innumerable times with a Lidl / Aldi intelligent charger without disconnecting the battery once. Never even had a whiff of a problem.
