Egs gearbox problem/ help needed

Post by Benscab123 »

Please could anyone help me ?
Tried to fix a “faulty gearbox” warning using diagbox but I think I may have done something wrong. I went into gearbox something or other on diagbox and it started to calibrate the gear gates, but then part way through it flashed a message up saying failed due to no comms with ecu !
What have I done and how can I fix it please ?
Now every so often it will stick in neutral on the dash but strangely won’t fire up because it says “ put in neutral”

Not sure how we can help here, as I would of said we need some codes - but seeing as there is no comms with the ECU, that is unlikely.

What versions of Diagbox are you using (top right corner of the Diagbox screen will tell you)?

When calibrating the gear & clutch positions on EGS & Sensodrive gearboxes I always connect another running car to the vehicles battery with jump leads, if you don't & the battery is the slightest bit weak the process more often than not fails. The gearchange motors are quite power hungry 7 can make the battery drop too low.
Try repeating the gear & clutch position calibrations but this time with another car connected via jump leads.

Tried it again today and it did eventually complete the process. However, I’m still getting gearbox faulty on the dash and code p1718 gear selector

Your P1718 code means there is a gear selector signal fault: - coherence. It means the signal from the gear selector sensor is incoherent (one or more of the switches on the selector is faulty).

Suspect areas are: Piloted manual gearbox ECU, Sealing of the connectors and harnesses, 28-way connector of the piloted manual gearbox ECU, 28-way harness of the piloted manual gearbox ECU, Gear lever, Gearbox ECU, Earth cable, Earth screw.

Your P0405 I think I have mentioned to you before about this: The Electric EGR valve has a repeat signal fault: Copy voltage is too low.

Suspect Areas: Engine ECU 5V shared supply, Electrical harness, Electric exhaust gas recycling valve.

Could any of this be related to the under bonnet fuse box Marc ? I’m going to be selling the car in a few weeks once I can actually collect my new one after lockdown, so I don’t want to be spending much cash on this one really.

Also a couple of weeks ago I had smoke coming from the passenger side wheel arch, I believe the gearbox is on that side.

You're not having a good time with this one are you!

If it's electrical burning / smoking as opposed to oil, then your fuse box is where I would be looking - either that or the gearbox ECU. Below is the Electro Hydraulic Harness I mentioned in my fault code, and the Gearbox ECU is shown at 'A'. So I'd also be checking the connections to all these plugs shown on the harness to make sure nothing has got in there causing a short.

Ok, so I think you are referring to the hydraulic oil in the piloting actuator?

You need Diagbox to do a proper check as the oil must be checked after depressurising the piloting actuator.
  • Run a Global Test
  • On completion, go onto the Gearbox ECU and confirm
  • Select 'Specific Operations'
  • 'Check of the Gearbox Piloting Actuator Oil Level'
Diagbox will display a new menu.
  • Choose 'Depressurisation of the Hydraulic Circuit'
  • Then go and check the level of the oil in the reservoir:
ladotg A.PNG
The oil level must be at maximum ( as "a").

Carry out:
  • Top up with oil if necessary
  • Pressurise and bleed the hydraulic circuit
Oil Quality:

Fill via the cap shown at (2)
SELENIA oil
TUTELA CAR CS SPEED
SAE 75W (Part number 9979.A4)
